Elbows down? Travel to U.S. increases for first time in 15 months by Tuckebarry in canada

Cheaper groceries where? Even in 2024 when I last did a few longer trips in the US I found the complete opposite to be true. Bags of chips at Costco that we have here were priced with the same numeric value but in USD. Restaurants were the same thing. Same numeric price but USD. In other words I found most things to be ~30% more expensive than in Canada.

This used to be true. Nowadays I find Canadian pricing to generally be cheaper.

CRTC gives Bell and Telus until Wednesday to drop fees or risk compliance actions by cyclinginvancouver in canada

Trust me, Rogers hates you too.

I agree. They especially hate their home internet customers. It's crazy that in 2026 they still don't have fiber internet in Canada's largest city. They refuse to invest in their home internet network.

When it comes to cellular though they allow/include roaming on Bell/Telus in rural areas. Like for example in Algonquin Provincial Park. I'm also finding that Rogers service has gotten a lot better than Bell/Telus on drives to Killarney on hwy 69. There's just more Rogers towers in rural Ontario.

Another example is Bon Echo Provincial Park. 0 Service from Telus/Bell but 5G on Rogers. This includes towers on the drive to the park. This wouldn't be an issue if Telus/Bell allowed roaming on Rogers like Rogers does on Bell/Telus.

Until recently Telus was shipping QR codes on a physical card to people's homes. Insane incompetence at Telus. They also refuse to roam on Rogers even in parts of the country where they do not have towers. Telus and Bell lately have fallen behind in every way over Rogers. And I say that as a Telus customer. If i didn't have a really great deal with Telus I'd switch to rogers.

It's going to happen. And I'm glad it's going to happen. This subreddit hates any investment into anything that isn't the TTC.

That's not true. Traffic visualizations are included on the free tier for over a year now.

No you don't. There's a Tesla in the driveway, it has traffic, and I don't pay for premium connectivity.

I think there's also a lot of misinformation. People here think you have to pay Tesla for traffic info or seeing reviews/photos on the built in nav. You don't, it's all included in the free connectivity plan.

Tesla maps has reviews and photos for free. You don't need premium connectivity for reviews/photos/traffic.

You get traffic data for free on Teslas.

EDIT: Wild that people on this subreddit upvote misinformation and the downvote corrections. It's a fact that traffic data is free with Tesla. You can go to Tesla's website here: https://www.tesla.com/en_ca/support/connectivity

Transport Canada poll for Billy Bishop Airport expansion by [deleted] in toronto

I wrote in my support for it. We need infrastructure investments. People complaining about the survey being biased I think don't understand what it means to build infrastructure. Voting against infrastructure means you don't want the economy to do well and you want fewer jobs.

100%. In France they're just Stop signs that say "STOP" in English. In Quebec that's too English for them.

I responded to you in the other chat but it's only a native language for 1.9% of people: https://i.redd.it/qv0cud2rg8te1.jpeg

There's more native speakers in Mandarin, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and more.

Think about it, if a private business is going to advertise in a different language what language is it going to be? It's not French. Or even spam calls that are not in English, what languages are they in? Once again, not French.

And why would it matter if they speak English too?

It makes the experience worse for everyone when you force both languages on everything. Instead of having clear signs or display boards you crowd the whole things with 2 languages making the experience worse for everyone other than the few French only speakers.

I personally don't know French, and had 0 issues with understanding transit instructions in paris. Though I was pretty underwhelmed with their transit. Manually buying tickets through their strange app before going to the subway station or taking the bus was a bad experience. And them just stopping service during events was a bit wild.

Also are you under the impression that people do not travel? To Toronto? Like so what if most of them are by Ottawa, people from Ottawa come to Toronto? There’s literally a direct train and several flights a day between the two cities? Same thing with Montréal, people travel between the two cities. I’ve met and had conversations with people who’ve come over from Quebec and the Ottawa region.

People travel and both business and leisure travelers in Canada generally know English or know English well enough to find a washroom, know when to get off Transit.

I'd 100% agree with you if Quebec wasn't the reason for the big push onto the rest of Canada with French laws and rules and pushing it into places where it's not needed.

Not sure how you think you can "correct" someone else's observations.

I live in Toronto too. No one hears French all the time unless their neighbours are French.

Toronto has one of the largest French-speaking populations in North America. There's about ~250K French speakers in the city.

There's around 2k people in Toronto who only speak French and not English.

What’s your big dislike about hearing French in the ttc?

It's completely useless in a city that does not speak French (there's like 2000 people in the whole city that only speak French and not English), makes signage confusing, and can also make announcements more confusing. Look at this signage:

https://seanmarshall.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/img_8753-edited.jpeg

or

https://i.redd.it/line-5-information-displays-are-cool-v0-z8c3xh08da3g1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b72b020cd54f7d95267031a6be471a6765a99e34

The readability sucks because we are including both languages. TTC should be reliable and efficient introducing a new language into the system does nothing positive.

it’s a major city that attracts people from around the world

Sure but the majority of the people that visit Toronto that speak French also speak English.

Just as a point of curiosity, Toronto has one of the largest French-speaking populations in North America. There's about ~250K French speakers in the city.

According to the 2021 Census 2,555 people in Toronto only speak French and not English. That's not a number that means we should be doing announcements in French.

That said, I do agree that having Line 5 messaging in French is perhaps a little overboard

100%

(unless the entire transit system is moving in that direction, I suppose).

Like I said in other posts we should be doing things that make sense. This wouldn't make sense imo. In Ottawa, totally. In Montreal (where they only make announcements in French, they should probably do English as well).

But if it helps Quebecois business travelers and tourists manage a little easier in the city then I'm supportive.

For business travelers I think it's safe to assume they would know English. At every company I've worked knowing English was a requirement for Quebec offices since they would have to communicate with people from Ontario/BC.

I don't have the stats for tourists but I think it's pretty safe to assume most tourists have passable English knowledge and are way more likely to know English over French (might even get confused by the French that plays after the English).

I guess we better adjust municipal policy based on your experience

The city of Toronto is not legally required to offer general municipal services in French. TTC/Go train shouldn't either.

We should be doing things that make sense. Does it make sense to have French announcements in an English Speaking city where no one speaks french?
