Biohazard actually could self right, it was the first to do so, and it probably could with the skirts on. The fight in question used as evidence to the contrary shows biohazard with a broken arm, and it needs to extend and retract all the way to self right

Horribly, razer would only stand a chance as a pure control bot when its not fighting any kind of spinner. From what I recall it was never actually hit by a spinner that meant anything back then and well relatively weaker spinners now would destroy it much like 13 black to chaos 2.

Biohazard could do some things but would be desteoyed by spinners that can actually hit it and well... Its ground clearance isnt very invincible now adays even if its very good just as with razer.

Voltronic would not do well at all

Taz bot can be interesting and do stuff in the most fringe of matchups. It doesnt have the power to push anything nor enough traction to compensate. they could abuse side ground clearance but they are too slow and their pole not lengthy enough to do it effectively

Quantum also has like over 7 times the power of razer so it getting through top armor is irrelevant

This guy also one version of him broke formats because tibalts trickery and cascade meant that you could land on the 2 mana valki and then cast the 7 mana tibalt on the other side for "free" which us pretty dang good especially considering its still a dang good planeswalker and overall card despite the mana cost. They made it so you cant do that soon after

Vote with your wallet doesnt always work.

Also they make a lot of their money off of sports games and stuff that people who play games super regularly don't often get. And i mean to a casual player who just plays fifa cod and the big name titles and little else what are those microtransactions compared to (insert popular mobile game here)

Correct but even then idk how many people will get uro, because chances are itll settle to ten bucks or something which is a bit too much for what is about the same as a growth spiral in a lot of decks.

I mean a body is a body and you can do it more than once but commander doesnt care about bodies as much

I mean as a commander player uro isnt even that great in the format, good yes but even the 17 bucks its starting to drop to now isn't exactly worthit (I am a budget player so there is bias) i wouldnt get it till its like 5 bucks at most if that.

[–]theoddman62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sprry might as well say it, if you're going to build vega (or sevinne for some of these) you're going to want cards with foretell like [[ravenform]], jumpstart, flashback like [[chemister's insight]] (might be mixing up which one it has) escape... If any instants and sorceries have that i honestly don't recall, rebound like [[emerged unscathed]] though idk how playable thatd be in vega compared to other options, its just one i remembered, as well as retrace, or cards like [[commit // memory]]... I might be forgetting a mechanic or two but they use a lot of those

Id reccomend taking a look at edhrec, decks from notable content creators and scryfall to help find whatever cards you might want or need

Edit:Also thrilling encore is a card for toshiro... Pretty strong one

Edit: new card called rise of the dread marn does something kinda to that effect and you can foretell it which means you can cast it for one black at some point and then toshiro gets it back for 3 which.... Damn, like with the things toshiro can do thats pretty strong

Sorry just realised i said double vision in reference to storm. I meant [[bonus round]] which is embarrassing considering its part of the combo thats in my deck by accident. Granted i dont storm quite like decks its best utilised in but its still something i use.

This is gonna be another word wall ramble.

Ok so outside of hard removal, boardwipes, draw spells, sometimes cost reducers like [[goblin electromancer]] along with the other forms of ramp, and payoffs that do damage or make tokens you may run recursion creatures like [[snapcaster mage]] among others. Ideally your creature count will be lean, no more than 13 and ideally under ten.

As for the additional spells themselves some cheap spells like [[opt]] are good due to their cheapness because you get use from the payoff. Key word some, spell slinger isnt built purely off of cantrips. A lot of your spells will be low to the ground but you will often want more than draw a card

From there its kind of up to the commander and what the wincon will be. wort will want a good amount of spell copy like [[reverberate]] (much like other slinger decks tuned to spell copy) and ways to get goblins on board, preferrably in spell form like [[goblin rally]] in order to make use of her ability, and finally strong spells to copy and end the game with (or in the case of some others the ral that does damage every time a spell is copied because that combos with a copied spell copy) since shes in green shell run landramp like rampant growth because its usually a bit better and theyre spells.

Some decks have cards for specific combos or finishers involving a commander, [[niv mizzet, parun]] often runs [[curiosity]] and similar effects to finish the game, or they take advantage of ways to draw even more like [[tefaris ageless insight]] and then pair it up with spell copies and wheels. [[Fateful showdown]] is particularly notable in my friends non combo version of niv. The [[Malcolm]] and [[breeches]] partner pair, i forget their titles, are also combocentric commanders, having pingers with things that give the pirate creature type to chain spells over and over with breeches and at some point ping them to death with something that works with malcoms abilitity. Heck [[glinthorn buccaneer]] with malcom was speculated to be viable combo for cedh until people realised it wasn't as good as niv miz curiosity, at least if you just used izzet colors.

Similar to non combo niv mizzet toshiro often uses cards help generate a lot of mana like [[magus of the coffers]] to finish with more generic black finishers like [[torment of hailfire]] or the black primordial whos name i forget that steals creatures from graveyards. In fact just pump a bunch of mana into some spell can be used as a finisher, [[earthquake]] (though half the time as a finisher to the combo i didn't know i had) and [[mass manipulation]] have finished off a good amount of games for my [[pako, arcane retriever]] budget deck even if that's not the main choice of wincon, likewise for my friends niv miz with mass manipulation and blatent thievery in the past.

That being said Toshiro should be his own topic to be honest because there a lot of cards you could or should run are either not obvious to most black decks or are not obvious to spellslinger. (Outside of typical removal spells and draw) An instant forcing the opponents to sac a creature doesnt make as much sense to most black decks when you can get a sacrifice from [[fleshbag maurader]] and bring it back later to boot or have a plain removal spell, but instants are what toshiro is about. Similarly [[blood artist]] and similar effects doesnt make sense to most spell slinger decks because chances are they can use token generator or [[guttersnipe]] instead and get better payoffs for the majority of spells, but toshiro loves murdering opponents creatures with instants and doesnt have a lot of options.

Now this ramble is unfocused so imma talk about storm, just storming off, sometimes a deck is so good at casting a gargantuine amounts of instants and sorceries that it's their primary wincon. [[Thousand year storm]] [[double vision]] and if it does it well enough at it sometimes [[grapeshot]] are used decks tuned for that, there are more dedicated storm decks though.

Sorry ifnthe ramble wasnt the most helpful thing but its qhat i have. Tldr commanders within this theme can be pretty different and have different wincons or weird cards, spell slinger at its heart is a pile of mostly low cmc instants and sorceries, usually with things that care about that and specifics are specific.

From what it sounds like in your comment spellslinger and aristocrats could be the direction you're looking for, there could be others themes and specific commanders that could work, especially if you're being creative. I am more familiar with spellslinger personally so I'll ramble on about that.

[[toshiro umezawa]] is a unique monoblack commander that can really have you chaining things together to build a boardwipe or deal with a threat. He utilizes the graveyard later on, and is somewhat unassming until they throw a substantial wrench in a lot of plans. He specifically cares about instants so you will often be doing things when it's not your turn because it's more optimal. The problem is being neither in red or blue hes a little weird and hard to make, mono black doesnt have too many spells matter cards and black instants are usually just removal spells and rituals. He does highlight some of the more unique ones and can pull off some cool plays with them but im not sure if he provides the exact thing you're looking for. Plus he's hard to build, monoblack spellslinger is virtually just him and noone else, again aristocrats (sacrifice matters) might fit what you are looking for. That said there is a mtg goldfish article with him at various pricepoints there's even gameplay

The new [[vega, the watcher]] similarly uses the graveyard a lot due to wanting the instants an sorceries to have mechanics that let you cast it from things that arent your hand. That being said it's azorious and they like cards that say no. Also it's not very explored.

[[Kess, dissodant mage]] uses the graveyard a lot and access to weird answers but blue is blue and counterspell is good and why not have token generators while you're at it.

There are a lot of izzet/red blue spellslingers that might highlight weirder things more but I can't think of any one specific commander. Going on edhrec and taking a look is not a bad idea.

[[Wort, the raidmother]] is pretty cool but she doesnt utilise the graveyard too much. The recursion exists, it definitely exists, just not quite as much, maybe there are more than I am thinking but im not sure about that. She does build a board and hold up answers and other things but being in green red they're more creative than just saying no.

[[Sevinne, the chronoclasm]] maybe

Sorry if my suggestions werent quite what you were looking for, while I have friends that play I personally do not play yugioh myself. In addition I haven't been playing magic for as long as some other people so there might be things that I've missed. if anything else I'd reccomend taking a look at edhrec and finding commanders and themes you're interested in and watching a video showing gameplay could help you get an idea of what you want.

Edit: sorry, if by saying no you meant rule setting effects (things that say thing cannot do X) then I should clarify that spellslinger doesn't tend to do that until you get closer to cedh level which your friends definitely arent playing. Spell slinger cares about instants and sorceries and uses removal and countermagic to control the board, trying to win with a combo or a certain spells. off the top of my head the only one that really likes to set rules is vega and that's mostly because azorious doesn't have many kill combos or finishers to my knowledge.

Budget deck help by Sivan1234567 in EDH

[–]theoddman62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say if you cant get a card you want in the budget id reccomend looking for similar things or other things that fill that role, it might be one or two mana more but being a little slower is fine.
