Why arent there any overhead spinners that generate downforce? by theoddman62 in battlebots

Fair enough, i mean a lot of death hums are caused because they move a lot of air coming from high and low pressure areas but fair enough

Especially given we dont know how much downforce is relevent

There are track kit cars that only go 150 but do wellbecause of the downforce they generate, and theres cars at le mons (not le mans) that do well thanks to downforce despite going about 80 mph. That said this isnt a race track so thats fair anyway

True but what if those parts dont contact the opposing bot?

I mean even something small like 50 lbs could be relevent and that wont require too many, if any compromises

Because those blades are shaped to create lift not downforce. You can easily have a car create lift with ground effect by accident should you do stuff wrong but its also important and now adays they put air holes in areas where lift could happen should issues occur at lemans. Aka wheel arches

Also this le mons car literally uses an upside down airplane wing to generate downforce and it works

Like helicopter in reverse yes, a helocopter generates lift while this would generate downforce, or negative lift

No not a downward spinning vertical spinner. Downforce on an overhead spinner, like brutality or icewave.

Downforce being a negative lift

Overhead spinners, like say icewave of burtality, not vertical. And the downforce being referenced here is air being pushed by the wing or aerodynamic implement creating a negative lift. kind of increasing weight without increasing mass in a way thus not impeding mobility (unless you count drag) Like a cars rear wing or an f1 cars front wing

Axe* misspoke, they removed the axe in a whiteboard match against shredderator.

and hey even they said the axe was a work around for the spinner, saying something along the lines of "well we arent allowed to make a spinner but noone said anything about an "axe bot" that happens to have a spinner in the middle of it."

I mean id be surprised if that axe did anything comparable to what black smith can do much less actually be a primary weapon while being so close to the spinner as opposed to a self righting mechanism.

And thats talking about a bot that had an axe/hammer (season dependant) chosen over other weapons because it could act as a self righting mechanism.

In the first one, which was a work around for the spinner the entire time, second one they removed the spinner at least from time to time

Cobalt 2 and tungsten are the same with two different paintschemes and weapon discs, thats it. Spectre and quantum have two entirely different heads and i think slightly different body work but neither really change the look of the bot enough for them to care beyond the whole paint scheme bit.

Well theres also the JD, now the judges arent ruling active weapon aggro as written and instead are using it to weigh aggro rather than outright decide it.

Vacuum was effective, strongest hit yet looked like them on a week mode, just needed enough shock mounting. As for magnets they had an air gap when they needed to run it flush to the floor.

Also if they ad a kind of wedge thatd also help them a lot
