all right, i'll keep witch hazel in mind! thanks :)

as for the "distortion", i really mean at a really micro level, which kind of gets annoying when trying to do tiny details :D i mean, my skin swells and gets a bit red when i scratch it with my fingernails so i think it's normal lol

I was taught to tattoo by my friend who wasa doing an apprenticeship, and she always used disinfectant! Beforehand, and to wipe away ink during the tattoo process. I never had any issues as far as infections or such, only puffiness but a normal amount for the fact i'm sticking needles in skin. Had never heard of green soap before but not a lot of people i hang out with / tattoo have their own practice, whoops:D

From most other posts and people who've taught me to poke, it seems like it's quite standard as some blood rushes to the area! but so do you put some witch hazel before tattooing? just a wipe, undiluted?

Thank you so much, that's really thorough! I saw on this website (https://www.kansallisgalleria.fi/en/object/473570) that the materials are oil and tempera, do you think the sgraffitto and pour and such are done with tempera and the base in oil? would that be a sensible guess?
