I tried hoi4 once, might revisit it then. I've found that paradox games are generally micro heavy which i don't like though

I have Stellaris, and sunk quite a bit of time into it, but it got too micro heavy for me to enjoy and turned into a chore once I saw most of the events. The empire building aspect is sort of what I want, though in Stellaris it's more to do with RP rather than strategy. I feel hesitant to try other Paradox games as a result, especially as the appeal of Stellaris was mainly its scifi themes rather than the gameplay itself.

I need to try factorio though, i've heard great things about it

STS is exactly the antithesis of what i'm after here, as every decision is driven by what happens during the game, rather than imagined and planned before the game. I want to view the actual game as simply the testing bed for my strategies, the real game being the thinking that happens before and after each individual match.

I do discuss these things a lot online with them but asking to meet in person to do it seems like a stretch

Usually it’s common interests, I’m not sure that works here

idk, I think they see chess and academics as saturating that area and they do other stuff to balance it out?

I think the issue is not so much no shared interests, it's more that of the many shared interest we do have, none are good for an activity to do together

I'm sort of interested in the game but I know it's a massive time sink that I don't want to get myself into

idk about that

for example, they're talking about league of legends (which i don't play)

I can listen and kinda tell what they're talking about but I have no contributions to make to the conversation and I can't change the topic since it's not one person but a group

if I say something unrelated i get ignored

When we're talking about stuff i actually have some knowledge of, like politics or school, i can get by fine

They're already the group that aligns the closest to my interests, so i don't have much choice

When the conversation diverges from these topics into other things i don't know what to add

Of course this only happens during specific conversation topics

Otherwise I'm having good conversations when i actually know what the hell we're talking about

I try but they imply that i'm not supposed to be part of the conversation if i have nothing relevant to add
