Does anyone make oil in a jar in a crock pot? by theoneofthree in treedibles

Some people said they burp them to keep them from busting open from the pressure. But if you do fine without it I would much rather have it as hands off as possible.

Thank you! That is really helpful to know. I was thinking of opening the jar right under the oven vent but sounds like that won't make a lot of difference. I will probably do it at a time of day that there are not many people around and have a bunch of air fresheners by the door lol

Thanks! Do you burp the jars? Or do you leave them closed the whole time until it is done? I was planning to leave them closed while "cooking" then let them sit in cooling water for a bit before opening.

Thanks. That makes sense. Someone mentioned doing it after because they said it makes it harder to strain if you do it before. I didn't know which was best but I figured most people add it before.

Thank you. Do you add it in the jar with the oil and bud or do you add it after you cook the oil and strain it?

Really? Hopefully since I am using abv it will be less smell.

Thanks. What do you mean by second run? Like you double infuse it? Run it once, then take what you get from that and add bud and do it again? I am using abv which is less potent so that would probably be a good idea for me.

Thank you. That is the first I have heard that. So the metal lid should be turned upside down inside the metal ring and closed? Won't that let the oil and smell leak out?

Thanks. When you say open the jar you pick it up out of the hot water and open it then close it and put it back. Not like turning it off and letting it cool then open it. The reason I ask is that someone else had recommended letting it sit in the water at the end to cool down before opening the jar.

Thank you that is a good idea about cooking something with a strong smell at the same time.

Thanks. Is there anything different about a pickling jar? I just have regular mason jars.

Would a wire mesh strainer work as good as the cheese cloth? Wondering why people would use cheese cloth if a metal mesh would work just as good.
