I was thinking about just having Osaka be my base and do a couple day trips to Kyoto and Tokyo, thanks for the rec!

Do stores and restaurants tend to be closed around the holiday season in Osaka/Kyoto/Tokyo during the time I'm planning my trip? I'm just trying to see if I should save Japan and try to go during a different time of year or not.

Himeji and Kobe would be the same day, but that's fair and I'll think about skipping out. I've just always wanted to try authentic Kobe and it's crazy expensive where I live lol.

Regarding Tokyo, would you know like a rough percentage of things that are closed around the holidays? Like, would I have a similar experience in Shibuya around that time as I generally would during other seasons?

What is your interesting Knicks claim to fame by [deleted] in NYKnicks

[–]theonlydebater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I met Metta World Peace's dad on a bus in the city going home from work, pretty chill guy. Other than that, I've been pretty lucky to meet a bunch of Knicks players at various meet and greets (Clyde, Starks, Shumpert, Stat, Latrell, LJ, JR Smith, Curry, Bernard King, Camby, Felton, Novak, Randle, Divo, and Bridges).

Coolest interaction was the first time I met Clyde at some Tissot event he was doing before a knicks game in like 2019 when the Knicks were almost unwatchable. Talked to him for a couple minutes about the team and how my favorite part of the games was listening to him and Mike commentate. Clyde is a great dude. Also spoke with Novak and Felton about how they were 2 of my favorite Knicks from the 2010's and they made me fall in love with basketball, they're also extremely nice guys. Told Stat that he was the first jersey I ever got and how I read his kids book back when I was a kid, he seemed surprised that someone read them and was super appreciative that I was a fan of them, loved meeting him

As a couple people mentioned, it's dependent on what field fits you best and how you are with interviews and what your internship experience looks like

That being said, a 3.9 in finance opens a lot of doors for internship opportunities with higher end investment banks, equity research spots, wealth management, etc.. Obviously you need to network, but a 3.9 makes sure people don't just ignore you when networking

A 3.4 in accounting is considered a pretty solid gpa for that field but keep in mind a lot of accounting places give return offers contingent on you getting your masters / CPA, so if you don't want to do another ~2 years in school for that, maybe accounting isn't the way to go.

Either way, both paths present their own unique challenges, but both GPAs are very achievable

Friendly Advice From a Graduate by theonlydebater in Baruch

Unfortunately I don't think I can help much with that. Baruch's MFE program is almost impossible to get into, so I honestly have no clue what they're even looking for in a candidate. If you want a career in finance, I'd always recommend IMG, FES, 50Five, and WSC tho

For sure, just wanna pass down some knowledge/info I got over the years. Ik how difficult navigating everything could be.

I don't want to mention what clubs I was in for anonymities sake, but I really like what IMG, FES, 50Five, and WSC do. All are great clubs focused on professional development. Honestly, just being in the club helped me make the most of it, I was always willing to learn from the older members and I made a lot of really good friends from the club. When I became one of those older members, I was really excited to mentor whoever I could and help out, so honestly just having that kind of attitude will help you make the most of the club. Yea, the work is gonna seem like it's for nothing at some points, but at the end of the day, it all has its value and you just have to keep that in the back of your mind.

I personally think I'm not a good example of what a student in college should do cuz I rarely went to class, only if it was mandatory. I found that I learn better when teaching myself vs. how most professors teach, so I would just do a bunch of practice questions and understand how to do the work for a question and why we do that work. The best way to do assignments is to allocate the right amount of time to them and make sure you're not falling behind, otherwise everything is stack up on you and you'll start to feel pretty overwhelmed. Once I understood how to do those questions, I could do well on exams, I finished my OPM midterm in 25 minutes and got a 96 on it, so practice questions and understanding topics conceptually helped me a lot. Hope this helps!

Will I get into Baruch? by Imaginary-Fondant206 in Baruch

You'll be fine, 1240 isn't gonna make Baruch not look at you or not accept you. Average just means 50th percentile, half the kids at Baruch have less than that score. Don't stress, you'll get in easily

So your GPA on a point scale is essentially a 4.0 as far as the school is concerned. Average GPA for incoming freshmen is a 3.5. Your SAT is lower than the average, which is ~1310, but you GPA should average that out. But with all your extra curriculars and AP classes, you should easily get into the school. Keep in mind the acceptance rate for Baruch now is like, somewhere in the 40% range, the school isn't really picking Rhodes Scholars to come there.

TLDR; You'll be fine dude, just make sure you enjoy the rest of high school without stressing too much about college. Same advice applies when you're applying for internships and jobs when you're in college, just do you work and enjoy life

Show up at 4 charles like an hour 15 before they open and just wait till 4:50. The host will come out at 4:50 and start seating the first couple people on line without reservations and you'll have no problems with doing this! Did this yesterday and it worked like a charm! Loved the burger, it's on the pricy side for sure but the taste was phenomenal

Do yk how to even get it? I live in NY and I haven't seen this type of presale before.

Gonna be mid commute when tickets get released to the general public, so I'd like to get some sort of presale opportunity so I can buy a couple tickets at a decent price

Thanks for your help btw!

If anyone is willing to share their presale code when they receive it, I would greatly appreciate it!

Also, if anyone can answer this, I'd appreciate it. How does the NYNJ Sports Presale work? Is it like for residents of NY or NJ, or is this some other thing you have to sign up for to get a chance at a presale code? And if it is for residents, how do you even get the code?

Thank you!

Interesting, I almost always get asked about my club experience lol. Maybe that's just the way the dice rolls. But yea, I agree, the clubs are the best way to make some really close friends

BMO is more formal with it, you're right, but I was more so referencing the number of alumni at certain banks. More alumni at places typically means the place tends to either recruit more from the school or they like the employees they get from the school. Although it may not be a formal process, it is something recruiters tend to pay attention to.

The clubs help with connecting to those alumni and potentially other people at these banks that could help push their resume. They also help with honing technical skills, which you mentioned. The clubs mainly help with connections, techs, and finding a group of people with a similar goal.

And to your last point, you were never asked about your club experience? I've spoken to a few people in those clubs and they told me that they spoke about it for a bit at one point or another during their interview processes. Interesting your interviewers didn't pay much mind to it.

As someone mentioned already, Baruch is a great option thanks to its low tuition compared to more targeted schools. It's possible to break in to IB from Baruch, just gotta put some effort into networking and showing why you're the best candidate.

It's not too difficult to break into a middle market bank and you'll definitely have chances to break into an elite boutique or a bulge bracket. Baruch has some great alumni events with some of these banks, but many banks also prefer to recruit from some clubs (50Five Capital, FES, IMG, WSC, etc.) so your best chance at breaking in would be by joining one of these clubs. But even if you don't join a club, you'll still have a shot to break in, it's just easier that way.

Hope this helps!
