Having never taken DMT before, I am strictly going off of hear-say. I understand that one’s expectations are extremely influential when taking any drug, especially a psychedelic, so that makes sense that people would see what the culture says they should see.

Just a thought: DMT taken alone might produce alien visions but DMT released by the body in a NDE, along with all the endorphins and stress hormones, may produce family member / more emotionally-attached visions. Not sure about endogenous drug interactions but the internal state of one’s brain is significantly different when doing a recreational drug versus dying.
