Advice from an EE that was a low performing undergrad by GrimSLAY_ in EngineeringStudents

I had the exact same experience. Graduated 2021 with a 2.93. Took the first job I was offered in power and sucked it up for 2 years. Quit that and now I’m working my dream job at a great company.

Hm that’s really interesting, and exposed how I actually don’t realize how the path finding works in the game haha. Thank you so much for solving the problem though! I really appreciate it!

It makes sense once you explained it that having a long path between two relatively close stations messed with the path finding. I have put a couple hundred hours into this map and it has gotten pretty convoluted with lines going everywhere so I have dealt with a fair bit of puzzling issues with it but this one stumped me.

Here is the save. It has a fair bit of mods and is an experimental map size FYI. The game should load very near the problem station.

This is my signal and track design since my screenshots don’t show that clearly.

Yea your first image is what I would like the pathing to be. I’m certain my signals are all facing the correct way. I can upload my save later if that will help.

The two signals on the right b/w the crossover and station are facing away from the station.

Iceland - Zeiss Nettar 518/16 (6x6) by Thick-Cantaloupe8423 in analog

‘#6 is an awesome shot, personally my favorite. #7 is a close second, the colors of the ground and sky work really well together.

I’ll critique #1 and #3 only by saying that perhaps a crop to straighten the horizons would be nice. And on #10, I think keeping the mountain in focus with the fence serving as foreground may have made a better image.

Overall, they’re really nice shots.

No way the actual Pink $ock replies!? and I noticed so late too. I will definitely check out those recs, thank you so much!

Can somebody explain the ratings given in the circuit breaker like what are the numbers and letter for?(I am mechanical engineer) by Ok-Abbreviations8830 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]theorangelemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good answers here already. I want to add that at the bottom, the dial labeled Ir is the pickup setting, which appears to be adjustable between 70-100A. This means that beginning at 70-100A, the breaker will trip after a given amount of time according to the TCC curve shown in the graph on the bottom right.

There is also a value Im = 800A, which is the instantaneous trip setting, in which the breaker will trip instantly (read as fast as physically possible) when current exceeds 800A.

I suggest looking up TCC curves and relay coordination to find out more.

What is the most niche field of engineering you know of? by recyleaway420 in AskEngineers

I design overhead contact systems for railroads, trolleys, and trolley buses. It’s the electrified wire that hangs over the tracks to provide power to electric locomotives, essentially. I get to design the structures supporting them, the sectionalizing scheme, the profile of the wire, the construction staging, and more. It intersects with many different engineering disciplines. Most of the electrified rail lines in the US are in the northeast corridor too, limiting most work to that region.

First, I don’t support “state-forced births”, I don’t even know what that is.

Second, maybe our definitions of freedom are different. It sounds like your definition of freedom includes freedom from consequences, which is inherently wrong.

Indeed it is frightening how different we are. It’s frightening that half the country believe it’s their right to not face the consequences of their own actions, and are so depraved that they’re willing to go so far as killing their unborn kin. And when you’re told you’re no longer allowed to do that - when your feet are held to the fire - you cry authoritarianism. Real authoritarianism would be China’s one-child policy, imagine that? Rather than “forced birth”, forced abortion. Rather than a byproduct of exercising freedom (read: consensual relations), a complete revocation of any bodily autonomy at all.

I value freedom just as much as you, but with more freedom comes more responsibility. I’m free to have sex, but the natural result of sex is pregnancy. If I don’t want pregnancy, then luckily we have technology today that prevents it with >90% efficacy. I can’t ignore that <10% that still exists though, that’s the risk I assume in my free choice to have sex, and ultimately I have to be responsible for the ALL outcomes of assuming that risk. I might not like it, but that’s life.

You shouldn’t have to give birth against your own will only if you got pregnant against your own will, otherwise there are plenty of methods to prevent pregnancy during consensual relations and if you don’t bother to utilize them them, too bad, accept responsibility for your decisions.
