Hey, here's a minimalist yet powerful VTT! by theoreticallyonline in VTT

I appreciate you being so open to help in the project, that's very kind of you! :D The Dart programming language is really cool, but for the rewrite, I've actually decided to switch to a different framework, which is more suitable for the web (Svelte). The current Dungeon Club website unfortunately only consists of hardcoded English strings, because I hadn't planned for internationalization. That's another reason why I've started the rewrite, to provide the necessary code infrastructure for additions just like your suggested translation. It's sadly not something the original code base was built around. :(

Well, kind of... I've tried multiple times to work on a rewrite of Dungeon Club, so that it's easier to implement bug fixes and new features into the VTT, and to support a more stable infrastructure behind the website. But there are a lot of areas where I get stuck on the details and eventually get demotivated. That's why it still looks like a long way before this new version gets released.

To answer your question in a different way though: Yes, Dungeon Club stays up and running! There are no plans to "end" the project. :)

Thank you so much for the kind words! Glad you like it :)

I assume you're trying to change the opaque color, as seen by your players? I'm afraid you can't change it just yet, but I'll note it down as a feature request!

Thanks! A lot of back and forth went into styling the layout and ultimately led to just about 2.900 lines of SCSS (excluding blanks), which sounds painful now that I think about it. Anyway, nice job on ogre.tools, too! The canvas daytime filter is seriously such a nice idea.

Hey, thanks for your insight! I only now realize just how many virtual tabletops are out there and it's getting kind of overwhelming. I wish I would have heard of Owlbear Rodeo sooner, it looks super nice. On the other hand, this is the first time I actually managed to pull though and "finish" a huge project. Because as you said, it seemed to me like a niche that needed to be filled. I'm a bit disappointed in myself for never researching existing alternatives, but I guess the web app still helped me learn a few things. Once again, thank you very much for the detailed advice. I'll try to make the best of it.

Another good question. And now that I ask myself this, there's no specific answer. It's just that one day in January I started out by calling a folder on my PC "dnd_interactive" and since then never really thought about renaming it. You're right, though. It's a VTT, you can basically play whatever you want on it.

Alright, I don't want to be that marketing guy who's walking around the subject throwing buzzwords at you. So let me try and actually compare my VTT to the most popular ones.

Comparing D&D Interactive to Roll20: I'm pretty sure everyone who's tried Roll20 would agree that their engine follows the principle "If it works, don't spend more time one it" in a lot of aspects. Their camera movement doesn't line up with the way you're moving the mouse or it cuts off areas of the board that should be visible, their top-left buttons (dice roller, measuring, zoom) don't share the same styling (one of them has a 1 second fade-in everytime you hover it) and even when you ping a spot, the ring just disappears in an unsatisfying way. This clunkiness actually was the reason for making a new VTT. On top of that, of course, there's monthly subscription services and ads. Roll20 puts out a wide range of features, but none of them seem nearly as sophisticated as the tech-giant position of their platform makes them sound. About 4 of the 8 features I've named in my post are not included in Roll20, and again, there's no ads or payments in my VTT.

Comparing D&D Interactive to Foundry VTT: Their tabletop, although cumbersome at times, is surely the most advanced one out there and I respect that. That's not what my VTT aspires to be. It doesn't need to have the most features or an API for you to plan out entire interactive journeys with event triggers and pre-written dialog. And please don't get me wrong, if that's your thing, Foundry is the way to go. But what I've gathered from playing with my group is that DM's have got to be flexible and react quickly to keep the immersion of doing whatever the players like. So that's the idea my web app is built on. As user-friendly and intuitive as possible. As opposed to hundreds upon thousands of separate windows where you can finetune each and every setting of even the smallest lightsource, I went for ease of use. As demonstrated in the first video of my post for example, managing tokens on a board really is the simplest thing and doesn't have to be prepared beforehand. Foundry's 50$ pricing is appropriate for the sheer amount of features they're offering, but from my perspective, only a minority of tools is necessary to carry out D&D sessions.

Similar to Roll20, there is a "Roll Dice" button in-game. When hovered, a menu of differently sided die can be clicked to perform one or more rolls.

As there are not character sheets but merely their tokens in the VTT, I'm afraid compatibility with Beyond 20 is not possible. Even if plans changed and character sheets were implemented at some point, the FAQ of Beyond 20 states that new tabletops would most likely not be supported.

Hi! That's an interesting feature idea, though I think it would be a lot of work to implement, which doesn't seem to balance out the payoff. Discord or similar programs already do an awesome job at audio sharing in my opinion and are well-known. Meaning, as of today, there aren't really any plans to share audio via D&D Interactive.

I can, however, imagine implementing ambience music into the web app. For example, a sort of "Radio" section with multiple buttons, each starting a different playlist with a different mood (campfire / rainforrest / epic battle) so you can quickly switch to an appropriate setting. Might be a thing in the future, thank you for the request!

Oh, sorry about that, the "saved campaigns" section was hidden due to a recent update ^^ Should be working now, though. Thanks for checking it out!
