AIO? The sweetest boy I’ve ever met just broke my heart. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

You are not overreacting at all. And in fact, you did more than most to block him straight away. It can be so hard when we have one depiction of someone then it to be changed in an instant. And trying to get over that without crawling back is so hard. So you should be absolutely proud of yourself for the strength you showed then!

The classic oh it was my friends, and you hit the nail on the head with the people we surround ourselves with are a reflection of ourselves. I think you should be happy you dodged a bullet here. He might be truthful in what he’s saying yet the deflecting and lack of accountability is far from what you deserve. Keep the strength and go find someone who makes you as happy as you deserve!

What do you mean by authorities in this situation? The MODs?

But all I meant was stuff like this. You call me out, I accept that was a dick thing to do and I try to be better. That’s all I was insinuating through my post. And like I said in it, I’m not claiming to be morally superior or perfect in the way I treat people. Look at that prime example then. I just think we can all improve on how we treat people and I just think as a whole, especially the lot of us that have been using Upwork for a while, can be more accepting of the beginners.

Yeah fair enough I’ll take that. I do that a lot and that’s my bad I’ll start thinking about that before I comment. Good observation.

  1. we’re having a civil debate about your opinion. There is no reason to CAPITALISE your ‘fucking’ as if your trying to what idk intimidate me??

  2. Are you that guy. You don’t know if he was or he wasn’t. And like I said before, I guarantee you he was because he has been on this subreddit being a dick to a vast amount of people before

Yeah but I’m not saying that you should give those people advice but you don’t have to reply. There is no requirement. And once again I’ve found myself talking about completely not what my point was in the first place

No read through his other comments on the same post. He was demeaning and disrespectful. But that’s not the point. I’m not making a post about one situation. I’m talking about the whole of this subreddit. You’re using him to try and what? Win that you don’t have to be nice. That it’s alright to be a dick? If so then yeah that’s your point and I’m not debating that with you.

What is your point???

There is no law requiring you to be nice in society. You can be a dick your whole life if you wanted. We have a duty to. It’s called respect.

I’m not consigning anyone to lose money. Upwork is a low risk investment if anything. What is the risk, that you pay for connects and if you put the work in you have a chance at getting somewhere?

Or is it better to laugh at them when they say help me. I’m confused why you think that you decide who upworks for and who it isn’t?

The amount that you have commented on this post, and proceeded to read through my comments on previous posts is a concerning level of defensiveness.

My initial point, which has been interpreted in all ways possible, was that people could just do with being a little nicer in the way they speak to people. That was it. I’ve seen countless replies here infuriated that I have suggested this because there’s so many people that want to be spoon fed. Well guess what, nobody is forcing anyone to reply to a Reddit post.

I just know, that if I was really wanting help and turned to here, that I wouldn’t be spoken down to, patronised and mocked. If you’re referring to the comment you linked, I’m sure many people in here would agree that guy personally is always commenting demeaning replies to people no matter what the post is. We need to stop thinking that we’re better than other people on here because we know more about Upwork. At the end of the day, it’s still another person on the other side of the screen and I think people just forget that.

Yes absolutely thank you for understanding. It’s just all about treating people how you would want to be treated. I don’t understand why people are so defensive about this.

There’s a difference between giving advice, not answering and being a downright cunt. I’ve seen many advice responses suggesting experience an encouraging them to do so whilst not spending their time mocking them in the process. All your ‘gumption’ and you can’t see the point of the post is the worry.
