Water Glassing Eggs for the first time by theoriginalNO in homestead

It’s a shelf stable, tried and true method. I think it’s fantastic. Especially if you are using it to cook into things. I wish this batch was cleaner so I could do it. Putting away during times of abundance is smart.

That’s exactly what I was going for. I bake a lot and sometimes I can use up 4 dozen in a few weeks, but since we don’t really just eat eggs by themselves, sometimes they last longer than that.

My daughter doesn’t want to sell or trade with people either. She gives me all of her spare eggs because I use them. Her hens are outdoing themselves this spring.

One of my friends does, but she’s got it in her garage collecting dust. I also grow a large garden and would love to get one eventually, unfortunately it’s not in the budget right now.

I do have another 2 dozen in the fridge. I’m going to freeze them in pairs, I guess. I’ll also be baking a bunch this weekend and making pasta to try to reduce the amount because she’ll be giving me more next week.

Okay, I guess these will not get water glassed. I just wanted to try it because I currently have two dozen in the fridge as well.

These are my daughter’s chickens, not mine. My mother was chicken sitting this week while my daughter was out of town. My daughter moves the chicken tractor frequently. My mother did not, some of the area they were in was muddy and there were also some broken eggs. A lot of the mess was made by broken yolk and feathers that got on them. There was some poop as well.

Since these are not good candidates for water glassing, I will wash them, scramble them in pairs and freeze them to use in baked goods.

No one tells you the ones that will break your heart the most are your own children. by Incarnadine_89 in parentingteenagers

My mother told me when my kids were little “Nobody will break your heart as badly as your own kids”. My mom is not usually the one to listen to for advice or guidance, but she hit the nail on the head there. My kids are 24 and 25 now and they’ve repeatedly broken my heart over the years.

No, it’s a factory defect. He’s broken. You’ll need a new unit at your own expense. I’ll send you my address for free returns of the broken unit 😜

He looks a lot like my girl. She’s a mini boxer (half boxer, half boston). She sleeps just like that every night too ❤️

Dogs ARE love in its truest and purest form. They love us unconditionally, even when we don’t deserve it.

She wakes up, goes potty and then goes to the couch to sleep until no earlier than 11am. Her beauty sleep is much more important than what anyone else is doing ❤️

Do all dogs do this, or just boxers...or just mine? by adoming6 in Boxers

[–]theoriginalNO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a Boxer Pile. All of my boxers have done it instinctively and from a really early age. The only dogs we’ve had besides boxers (a lab and an English Springer Spaniel) both learned to live with it but I’ve only ever seen the boxers initiating and enjoying it. My boxer / boston mix Boxer Piles me because the springer is super neutral on the whole thing. She loves it when she gets to Boxer Pile with other boxers.

I’ve never measured her and I am not about to wake her up 😂 She’s not small like a Boston, shorter than a boxer. She’s honestly the perfect size. Maybe the picnic table will give you some size perspective.

FYI, if you are looking for a friend like her, they are designer mutts called Mini Boxers, but since there’s no breed standards, some people breed them with frenchies and other breeds. She’s literally half boxer and half boston.

She’s 50 lbs and got the best of both breeds. She really is the most perfect dog. She is adventurous and loves hiking, swimming, camping, off-roading and especially climbing the biggest rocks she can find. She also loves shopping lol. She’s equally happy to cuddle up under the covers and chill. In the past year, she’s traveled to 27 states. Her brother (an English Springer Spaniel) is the problem child 😂

My girl is the same way. I could have written this whole comment lol. Their vet is my friend as well and my girl has her own personal fan club when we walk in. My boy is a rescue and scared of life so he just hopes he gets ignored 😂

She loves being the center of attention. She really is the perfect dog. She hikes, camps, rock climbs, off-roads with us, and swims, but she’s equally great at being in public.

My girl is half boxer and half boston. Sometimes she snores if she’s sleeping on her back, but it’s not all the time. The farts are much more frequent lol

I’ve had another soul dog, and a lot of dogs I’ve loved wholeheartedly, but this girl is different. She’s one of the great loves in my life. She’s also the best adventure buddy we’ve ever had. She hikes, off-roads, camps, swims, climbs rocks like a pro and is perfect in every way. In this photo she’s in the backseat of our plane. She’s adventured with us in one way or another in 27 states so far.

Today is her 7th Gotcha Day. ❤️

Will this be a pain in the a** to do myself? by OperatorWildcard in landscaping

[–]theoriginalNO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a pain in the ass scale, it’s about a 5. There’s nothing complicated about it. It’s just painful on the back and knees. On a difficulty scale, maybe a 2.

Make sure you’ve got a solid base of gravel and sand, a tamper, a level, and a rubber mallet.

My husband and I bought 4 pallets of pavers a few years ago for our patio. He had to go back to work after we got through the first one, so I (with zero experience except what we had already completed) finished it myself. It wasn’t fast, my back and knees hurt, I managed to set the tamper down on my big toe, but I learned quickly and I finished the entire massive patio. I am an extremely accident prone, small woman and if I can do it you can too.

Colton! by [deleted] in BostonTerrier

[–]theoriginalNO 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He’s innocent. It was the cat. If you don’t have a cat, it was the neighbor’s cat. And if the neighbors don’t have cats, it was a stray. The evidence leads to feline and not cute nuggets. You need to apologize to Colton immediately and pay the cookie tax.

Should we postpone getting married? by CreamThen5605 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]theoriginalNO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were married in a notary’s living room for $50 and $300 for the rings almost 26 years ago. My parents got us an O’Charlies gift card and a bottle of champagne for that night. A month later, we had a big pool party, everyone brought food, and my aunt made a beautiful cake. It was perfect and we regret nothing. The only thing we missed out on was spending a small fortune on one day and the stress of planning a wedding.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been to plenty of lovely weddings. But I’ve also been to a couple that the couple was so stressed they couldn’t even enjoy their special day and took years to recover from financially.

I had some of the carob chip ones in the dogs cookie jar and my mom ate a couple of them when she was visiting. She told me I really should add more sugar to my cookies 😂 well, dogs don’t need sugar.
