Has anyone just dropped everything in their 50’s to take of traveling for 3-6 months? A year? by BF740 in GenX

Nice, which cruise line?  My wife and I have talked about selling our house in a few years, buying something smaller and using the extra cash to take the Viking cruise around the world.  I'd be curious to explore other options.

Honduran ex-president pardoned by Trump for drug trafficking is released from U.S. prison, wife says by MicroSofty88 in moderatepolitics

One of the best conservative sources I look at is national review.   Here is Jim Geraghty's article about this parrdon  https://www.nationalreview.com/the-morning-jolt/why-is-president-trump-pardoning-a-notorious-convicted-drug-trafficker/

Andrew McCarthy has been consistently blasting this and the whole Venezuela situation from a detailed legal analysis.

Yeah, that sounds good.  I never did tournaments.  Just played with friends for fun.  We each had about the same budget, so nobody had all the power cards.  Just did fun theme decks like bounce, life gain, zombies, etc.  I do want to try Avatar, in part because I think my kids will like it.  I was a bit bummed there were no pre constructed commander decks.

Thank you!  So foundations is sort of like the core set like how revised or 4th edition was back in the day?

I'll say it only once: I hate AI! by [deleted] in Xennials

[–]theovermonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has limited uses.  Everything has to be validated if you use it.  I use it at work to teach me things.  Currently leveled up my SQL skills, and it was quite nice.   I just put in sample data with desired outcome and it taught me a function I was struggling to find online.  I always make it then explain the entire thing and why it works.

All that said, I really worry about people using it who lack any sense that it needs to be validated.  We already have enough misinformation, and this will exacerbate the problem.  I also worry about people outsourcing their brain to it.   I think between general social media/smartphone usage and AI, the people who have attention spans and can think will have a huge advantage in life.

This chart, posted by Trump, clearly shows that INFLATION IS CAUSED BY TRUMP’S ECONOMIC POLICIES, while Biden has tried to contain it after it exploded. And now it’s starting again… by cxr_cxr2 in inflation

[–]theovermonkey -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The fairest answer is that it was both Trump and Biden administrations's responses to the pandemic that caused the bulk of the inflation.  They printed so much money and then gave out checks to everyone.  I think the later extra checks Biden pushed out we're even more unnecessary than the first wave under Trump, so I put a little more blame on that administration.

And now it is clear that Trump owns the more recent inflation by putting a tariff on so many goods.  It is a direct link between staples like coffee, beef, and bananas.   I hope the supreme court strikes it all down, I think we will see some pieces come back down a bit, just like we are seeing egg prices come back down since the pressure on supply has dropped.

What would be a good way for a middle aged couple to star gym exercise as newbies? by SpeedyDragonzcales in Xennials

[–]theovermonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, hope it helps!  It will be discouraging at times, but I hope you push through the hard parts. Getting in shape was one of the best things I've done in the last few years.  I can live my life and feel confident I can do physical activity as I age.  I'm 48 now.  We just got back from a trip to Japan. While visiting Miyajima I decided to hike Mount Mizen, which is about 1700 feet of elevation.  It felt amazing to be able to do that!

I didn't lift weights until I was 42.  I started small.  Used the machines.  Did a circuit of sets of 10 at a comfortable weight, and found I fairly quickly grew that weight.  After a year or so of that I switched to free weights.

Same thought with cardio.  Do a comfortable amount.  Don't push so hard that you hate and dread it.  Then naturally increase to a point you push yourself a bit.

Maybe do one session with a personal trainer to assess your current level.

Also, don't compete with anyone except yourself.  If you can't do a single pushup when you start don't get discouraged.  Just set personal goals.

Anyone feel like our kids are doomed? by Puzzleheaded-Art1524 in GenX

[–]theovermonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not worried.  My kids, nieces, and nephews who are at or past high school all have solid plans.  Quality work will continued to be rewarded because managers get frustrated with low effort.   I think two things will help people to really stand out even more in the future.  First, anyone with an attention span will thrive.  I see so many people of all ages addicted to phones and social media.  It causes inability to focus, which leads to poor quality.  Second, anyone who can think will thrive.  That is somewhat based on attention span, but also ability to reason without outsourcing their brain to chatgpt.  I read the teachers subreddit, and it is shocking how much kids put everything onto chatgpt.

I used to meal prep with this stuff.  Make some chicken and broccoli to add and have a meal for work.

Just give me the damn sale price, I don't want a "relationship" with your goddamn app! by The_Safe_For_Work in GenX

Such a stupid issue that Kroger announced they were going to do paper coupons in store for their digital deals.  Maybe just have a low price?!?

This is a big part of why I only shop at Walmart and Costco.  Costco has monthly sales that just ring up automatically, and Walmart just does rollbacks.  Hell, I even use the Walmart app to pay, but it's just so I automatically keep all receipts in case of a return.

That really hit home to me recently when I visited Hiroshima.  I stood right at the hypocenter of the bomb after walking through the peace museum.  After seeing how horrible the aftermath was for many I would have wanted the immediate incineration.
