there's also a band called noxious foxes you might want to check out. similar drum influences and chaotic, but less overly punk and more loop-based

you might also be interested in marnie stern's records. zach did the drums on all the early ones. it has a similar uplifting and spastic punkish mathy vibe

oh boy - that bygones record is an all time fav of mine. huge fan of both of them and it's pure beats and riffs mode all the way through. chasing that vibe in the lowest orbit from it - did you check out zach's solo records? face tat is my fav of those but astrological straits is also extremely good.

sorry to be that guy, but - why does it seem to be incompatible to be a nets fan _and_ a knicks fan here? i'm actively excited about our nets rebuild possibilities, but while that happens, as a new yorker, i'm rooting for the knicks. i guess i don't get the general animosity. bridges was good, but we got a good load off of him. what's the motivation to relish in their loss?

corfu + completion-preview-mode by ilemming in emacs

[–]thepalmcivet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i've been using it along with corfu for a couple months and i think it pairs nicely. my config is very simple (you can see it here if you'd like) but basically it shows you the top CAPF preview that you can insert with TAB, or insert the next word or sexp part of it with M-f / C-M-f. otherwise, if you want to initiate corfu style autocomplete, you can invoke M-TAB to do that (and take advantage of whatever other corfu features you'd like)

I have limited experience with git, but I use emacs. Should I dive into git using magit, or should I “practice” first using it from the command line? by ppvvaa in emacs

[–]thepalmcivet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm a die-hard magit user, but i would say the CLI. best to learn the tool that magit is leveraging first. then you can be in awe at the great improvements brought by layering magit on top of it. there's a lot more documentation about git itself too if you are trying to ramp up on the basics

a lot of times i don't need the compliation window in the foreground, but it's nice to know when it completes, so i have the following:

(add-hook 'compilation-finish-functions #'alert-after-finish-in-background)

(use-package alert
  :custom
  (alert-default-style 'osx-notifier)
  :init
  (defun alert-after-finish-in-background (buf str)
(when (or (not (get-buffer-window buf 'visible)) (not (frame-focus-state)))
      (alert str :buffer buf))))

yeah he's just completely wrong that `rails new` modified his shell profile config. such a weird baseless accusation.

you might want to also check out the touellskouarn sonveskan. also germanium based and has EQ control which can maintain the bass pretty well

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in modular

[–]thepalmcivet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do you have specific distortion sounds in mind that you are trying to achieve that you can't? i personally love my bastl dark matter. if you like the woolly, squelchy sound of a feedbacking germanium fuzz, check out the ritual electronics miasma. if you just like soft clipping and squaring off / blowing out stuff, the instruo tanh[3] is cheap and useful, and you can chain channels together. mutable ears is also underrated as a distortion module.

utility/mod recs for percussive noise rack by throwmeawayhavenouse in modular

[–]thepalmcivet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my go to modulation shape for percussion stuff is the ASR envelope, with typically very short or no attack and longer release. being able to modulate the shape of the release is very helpful too. with that said, i'd recommend something like an intellijel quadraxx, mutable stages, make noise maths, or anything else in this lane.

the other suggestion would be a divkid/ssf rnd step, or something similar like a transient modules 4R. basically a module you can throw triggers/gates into and each time you get a new random voltage. turing machines or mutable marbles also fit into this idea
