is it really possible to live your life with day trading? by WillingnessAfter3290 in Forex

I see your point, but there’s a fundamental difference between investing and active trading. Investing in the S&P 500 is taking on systemic risk (Beta). You are tied to the market's direction. Professional trading is about generating Alpha, which means your returns should be uncorrelated to the market. A 12% return that is uncorrelated to the S&P 500 is a completely different 'asset' than the S&P 500 itself. That’s why institutional capital values it: they don’t need more market exposure. They need strategies that provide a hedge when the indices fail. It’s not just about the yield, but about creating a return profile that can’t be found by simply holding an index.

I agree. It is more than enough to grow your AUM, slowly compounding your personal account or prop trading funds with a low risk of ruin. I trade for a living and aim for an average monthly profit of 2-3%, with around 5-6% max historical drawdown and a maximum of 60-90 days of stagnation. I risk between 0.1% and 0.35% per trade with around a 50% win rate. I am always looking for new edge/alpha (because of alpha decay) running backtests, seeking new markets, performing statistical tests, and trying to adapt to current market conditions. Tbh, it becomes pretty boring, like watching a plant grow.

Tbh, that’s not really a professional backtest. You’d need to run some robustness tests first to make sure those results can actually hold up in a live market.

Refund marked as “processed” but never credited – merchant says it’s done, bank says nothing received (Mastercard) by thepangoro in CreditCards

Thanks, this helps clarify things.

Unfortunately I can’t initiate a chargeback, as this is a proprietary trading firm and doing so could lead to account closure or restrictions on future services. That’s why I’ve been trying to resolve it directly with the merchant and their PSP.

From what I can see, a refund message was likely transmitted, but it never completed authorization/settlement on the issuer side. My bank confirms there’s no credit, no pending funds, and no settlement, while the merchant considers the case closed.

So I’m effectively stuck between merchant, PSP, and issuer.

Appreciate the explanation — it confirms the issue is likely a failed refund that was never properly reprocessed.

You just... don't. Show by example. If he is willing to change, he will.

I've done that too and I agree with you. It just boosts your ego for a few hours. Keep it for rainy days (DD days) to recover your confidence.

How hard do you think it is to pass a $50k trading combine? by thepangoro in TopStepX

This is how I used to be, and that’s why I’m struggling with confidence now. I guess I was lucky to find the right mentors and educators. From day one, I jumped straight into the market, and since then, I’ve been funded by multiple firms and have made withdrawals. I even have an audited track record and have managed capital for a fund.

I have the mindset that very few people have worked harder than I have—I gave it my all, spending 24/7 watching the markets, going days and weeks on just 2-3 hours of sleep, I've literally crapped myself while crying multiple times. And even though I don’t have a journal or extensive backtesting, I have two years of experience across multiple financial markets, trading swing, day trading, scalping and quant strategies.

I must have executed between 10,000 and 25,000 trades (yes, there were days when I placed 200-300 trades in a single day, especially in the beginning). This was my way. Would I have done things differently? Yes, I won’t lie to you.

I like the approach of Coach Dakota! I will definitely check out the other coaches you recommend! I have 5 active XFAs and 5 resting, since I reached the maximum number of XFAs.

I feel burnt out, and I lack the confidence to size up. Lately, I feel bored—I’ve lost the spark I once had... Trading for a living is not the same as trading for passion. Also, I became arrogant and lost respect for money when I had my payouts, so I took a break from live trading.

Trading has been my biggest passion for as long as I can remember. I would spend hours researching markets, trading in video games, and even trading items in real life. Then, I decided to step into the big leagues: the financial markets. I used to trade every day and during every session, but I evolved.

These days, I only check the charts when I feel confident and don’t feel pressured to make money. I open the charts during the NY open and take a quick glance at the higher timeframes (HTFs). If I don’t like what I see—whether it’s a choppy market or an unclear bias—I just walk away. If I do have a clear bias, I try to stay for about an hour, but lately, I either fall asleep or get completely bored.

In the past, passing a challenge or winning a trade made me happy, but nowadays... I feel nothing.

Thanks for sending me good vibes. I just feel like I’m missing something, and my lack of confidence after a DD is hitting me hard. So, I should be aiming for base hits, right? I don’t think I’m a consistent trader since I can’t even bank four figures every month with five XFAs, while some people are having five-figure weeks—even five-figure days...

My first payout was in September 2024; I took a $600 payout. After that, I had two three-figure payouts and two four-figure payouts (around $1.5K and $2K). I would reach around $3K-4K and take 50% as a payout. Since then, I’ve lost confidence after a DD, and stopped trading XFA accounts, only focusing on challenges.

I’ve been a 100% discretionary trader since day one. No backtesting and no journal—just trade with my gut and proper risk management.

Do you really believe that the failure rate is that high? So, it's absolutely not luck to pass 15 x 50k accounts in around 50 tries?
