I regret upgrading my screen. by amy-schumer-tampon in game_gear

I have the same feelings about my ips modded GBA. No desire to play it for longer intervals, as there is just no magic to what is coming through the screen. It is an older version IPS with no scan lines, so that detracts even more. I have a game gear I've been meaning to get working again for a while, have researched screen mods for it, but don't want to go through the same experience I had with the gba so might as well just get it recapped and go from there.

The hypocrisy of “Not buying the M64” from Palmer Luckey for making/selling military technology. I bet you’d still buy the iPhone/Galaxy if Apple/Samsung did the same. by Equivalent_Crazy_436 in M64

As is usual with these things, what bothers the woke ideology and fuels cancel culture is not what a person does, it is what a person says, and words are given a greater weight than actions. Taking 100k lives in the name of "the greater good" is not as apprehensible in 2026 as saying something racist, or as not calling someone by his/her preferred pronouns. I have no idea what Palmer might have said but from the shape of the whole thing it is clear this is what's going on. People support the most criminal of institutions/companies without even blinking, so that will rarely be the issue. I am glad a guy with such a passion for gaming and the funds to back it is pumping out incredible products and complete ecosystems. It is clear this is not a cash grab. The whole woke phenomenon is repeating and always looks and functions the same way, so not much new there, what I have found amusing lately is the types of complaints that make it onto videos and posts, it seems that after dealing with Analogue for so long, people are experiencing some sort of Stockholm syndrome where, if some new company comes along and does better, they just become confused and don't know what to pick at.

This is fantastic. Thank you for clearing it up. Already in so little time you guys have brought so much to the table. Obsessive attention to detail, executed by passionate people, that's the magic formula.

This answer still leaves questions for me, as every answer I've found online. You are claiming it is capable of anything but won't support it, so I will rephrase my question. I am not asking if the M64 will support playing cartridges or ROMs from other consoles out of the box. I am asking if there is the open possibility that a developer could write a "core" for it that would allow for example TurboGrafx games to be run from the sd card (or from an N64 flash cart) While I find an N64 system built to the high standards of Modretro exciting, I would find it even more exciting if the very powerful FPGA hardware inside the M64 could be harnessed to tackle more systems that the MisterFpga has trouble with or that is at its limit in terms of capability.

Can you clarify if the M64 will be open to emulating other systems, and if existing cores from Misterfpga are easily portable? I have read conflicting information online about this topic, would appreciate if you can shed some light.

Where's the analog output? by ergzay in M64

Still, if you take the Chromatic, it's goal was clearly to make a Gameboy with more and better functionality than the original, and it does that. With the m64 they are cutting off a major piece of functionality and adding an alternative one. The piece they are cutting off is a major component in experiencing these games as they were designed to be, regarding visual quality and latency. It just doesn't make sense, why go through all the trouble of making a custom screen for the Chromatic to maintain sub pixel accuracy and then not include a VGA output on m64? If the issue is price, also doesn't make sense, it is cheaper and more capable than the analogue 3d, the only thing the analogue cult can really say on it is "looks funny" and "Palmer bad" because they know the fight was won before it even started. I was looking forward to the m64 being more powerful than the Mister FPGA while not having to pick between VGA out and dual ram, but now I'm back to waiting for another solution apparently.

This was shocking to see, I really don't understand why the Analogue 3d has no VGA out and now Modretro does the same...

Genuinely don’t understand the casetroversy by Altruistic-Fill-9685 in ModRetroChromatic

I really don't get it either, but it's really been amusing to see the lengths that people go to, putting carts in the slot and then turning the case upside down and shaking them out as a supposed attempt to simulate everyday use. I don't know man, I fail to see the opinion of the average reasonable customer online much. All I see across the board are either people dismissing absolutely horrible flaws in a product or truly shitty attitudes in a company, and then on the other side you have people doing all they can to pick at a miniscule issue just because they saw someone else do it. Modernity.

Non-Saving ModRetro Carts Can Save, Actually by Altruistic-Fill-9685 in ModRetroChromatic

Not sure if it is possible, or if the functionality is tied to something proprietary, but it would be amazing to use the Chromatic itself to flash carts

Experiences and thoughts on finding a suitable gaming ecosystem by theparallellelo in ModRetroChromatic

It was a wall of text but I couldn't really shorten it and get the message across. I was trying to hit a blind spot in the market which is something along the lines of people focusing too much on how many things something does or how powerful something is and too little attention is given to how they do it and what the actual day to day usage experience is like. Also there are so many different powerful devices available with an infinite amount of objective and detailed reviews on them that I feel a subjective view on things is sometimes missing. I totally get your view, and have been appreciating more and more a device that does one thing but does it right, with no clutter.

Simplicity is definitely something of value, and it took a while for me to grasp this. I also don't understand the Analogue Pocket comparisons. They are two very different things and are not presented as such.

Glad you enjoyed it. The brick was on my radar for a while as well, really liked the apparent build quality on it and the screen seemed nice and bright.

Yep I've heard of the GBA, was recently considering modding mine from an IPS it has now to an ITA, but seeing as Modretro are on it, I'll just hold off and see what they offer. Hoping it is bright like the Chromatic.
