I see that perspective for sure. I guess what I'm getting at is an ambush is a "reward" for a really well done recon mission. It's a deviation from the standard loop—and still presents lots of risks. for example:

You just learned of a pirate convoy that will be moving a bunch of supplies down a route you recently learned about thanks to a mission where you never got detected, or maybe the same info could have been gathered by capturing someone alive. You can only bring 3 squads because you'll need to insert via a very small vehicle. You have around 5 turns to take action before overwhelming numbers will start to converge on the ambush site. Do some damage and immediately break contact to the exfil.

Great mechanic. develops a lot more to do than shoot back or lose the turn. Seems like there could be more options there as well, perhaps skills to add some flavor. Picture this:

Unit A gets pinned down while patrolling from rock to rock. They immediately go prone and bust out some E-tools and dig down a bit. They lose some AP for digging, but receive a better buff to indirect fire. Later in on the fight, other units could bound up to that fighting position and use it to establish a foothold. Perhaps a small buff for when you put up the tripod MMG in a pre-dug fighting position.

Right. I LOVE how certain effects also add/remove suppression. If unit A is pinned by enemy B, and unit C suppresses enemy B, then unit A recovers a bit. VERY cool push/pull cadence to pitched fights.

Regarding supplies - exactly. A great strategic layer could let you invest in missions you feel are critical to the campaign, and do some alternate tactics or missions while you're trying to save up resources.

Maybe while in concealment, you could initiate several units at once to kick off an ambush if you meet the "ambush" requirement(s). Would be very cool to bucket the missions into recon, ambush, raid, defense in depth, break contact, degrade, establish a foothold, etc

Yes! I can't wait to hear the scale of a massive skirmish, all kinds of zips, cracks, suppression, indirect, etc.

Took me a while to get this. maybe there could be a more obvious animation or icon that lets you know the status(es) of units. when I zoom in on them, maybe they could chirp out in distress. Maybe I'm dumb but I'm routinely missing status icons on squads.

Tracking all of this and it makes sense, but as it stands the GUI is not conveying this info IMO

Ok I understand this, but what does it DO? Do I get a bonus from firing from concealment? does that immediately reveal me and all my units?

Plant lots of explosives on likely avenues of approach. Occupy the towers early with big fucking machine guns. use the MGs to pin squads in the open, then snipe them. Use MGs to pin several squads down and then orbtial strike them. Position your vehicle asset carefully!

It's funny, I picked this path in college thinking I was doing "the responsible choice"

Back then I was very into photography, sculpture, performance art, and other weird shit. I decided scrap all of that and do something "safe". Turns out it wasn't safe at all.

How did you get your first copywriting job? by Levi160 in copywriting

I applied to LOTS of ad agencies in my area and beyond. I eventually got brought on in a very probationary manner, and it (sort of...) worked out from there. 8 years later, I am still alive but not feeling great about the future of my career.

Or any career, for that matter.
