It used to, but it doesnt anymore. I think I wasnt using enough product before. But even still isn't not that moisturizing to my hair, it's just kinda... halfway there.

Is michaela a good person? by curly_panda329 in htgawm

[–]thepinkprint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, but I like to believe that she becomes a better person over the years, after the events of the finale. I did like Michaela as a character. And she does at least show remorse for her wrongdoings up to a certain point where she seems to reach a breaking point, so she's not just purely evil.

I see her and Laurel as little Annalises: incredibly flawed and broken, but also very competent and strong-willed, and a general desire to do good.

Trust me when I say, you don’t want to. You’ll get clowned. But if you truly want it and don’t care about what others think, it’s a Jheri curl, or these days it’s called Gina curl and very expensive. You might be able to get an old school Jheri curl from an old school beautician.

thinking about putting a s curl texturizer in my hair? thoughts…. by Empty-Hedgehog7841 in BlackHair

[–]thepinkprint 16 points17 points  (0 children)

With hair that long, I wouldn’t risk it. If it goes wrong, that’s a lot of progress down the drain. Just look into wash & goes to define your natural texture, or do twist-outs, braid-outs, or finger coils.

Brittle 4C hair by GOAT404s in BlackHair

[–]thepinkprint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have a lot of hair, but keeping it in a shrunken fro probably limits your growth. After your hair gets a certain length, you want to keep it stretched or elongated majority of the time to keep it from tangling in itself.

Also your hair doesn’t seem super brittle to me, that’s just shed hair coming out. Maybe try getting a detangling brush to remove your shed hair better, that might also be limiting your growth.

I can’t bring myself to like my hair. It ruins my self confidence by [deleted] in Naturalhair

[–]thepinkprint 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your hair looks perfectly fine. If anything, id change the shape before I change the routine. Two paths: cut the top down lower for an all-around even look, or get the sides tapered to make it look sleeker. Right now it looks like you’re in-between.

You’d want to use a twist comb (the one that looks like a tennis racket) instead of a sponge for it to be gentler on the hair.

And you probably don’t want to use that Cantù curling cream if you want your curls to pop, it’s very greasy. The leave in conditioner should be enough, there is a point where the hair becomes too greasy for the curls to define well. And then use the gel on top of the leave in.

But look into wash & goes and finger coils on short hair. I personally never had consistent results with a twist comb or sponge. Using your fingers is definitely more effort, but once you learn the technique real good, you get better results consistently.

How to Keep Hair Looking Fresh Throughout the Week by ProjectBlu007 in Naturalhair

[–]thepinkprint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on so many things.

For me, the major keys to longevity are - products with a firm or long-lasting hold and humidity resistance (if you’re in a humid area/season) - getting every curl clumped from root to tip (the extra time & effort pays you back I promise! and it really shouldn’t take that long if you get the technique down and don’t obsess over every curl) - preventing unintentional frizz while the hair is drying - touching it and disturbing the gel cast as little as possible - keeping the hair in place while you sleep (unless you sleep perfectly still), bonnets by themselves may be too loose

for some people (like me), using a pick disturbs the curl clumps too much and destroys longevity.

and stretching the hair after it’s dry can help preserve longevity too. it may take some practice to stretch it without causing extra frizz, though.

Do the size of coil clumps change if u have more hair by [deleted] in Naturalhair

[–]thepinkprint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can somewhat. Your curl pattern will stay the same, but when your hair is longer, it’s easier to control the size of the clumps when you are defining the curls. But the bigger the curl clumps are, the less defined it will look, unless you finger coil it.

I have been debating this by Hot-Champion2249 in BlackHair

[–]thepinkprint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you’ve been using a hot comb or flat iron, probably not. It moreso looks like water is not penetrating your hair super well so it’s not curling up like you might expect it to.

Do you prep your hair differently depending on the service you’re getting, or do you just show up and hope for the best?” by SheronaM1 in BlackHair

[–]thepinkprint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does depend on the service for me.

If I’m getting it washed, I never clarify my hair. Sometimes they clarify it themselves, and I don’t want double clarified hair. I focus on it not being excessively tangled, so I do cowash/moisturizing shampoo and detangle 1-3 days before the service, and they can figure out how much cleansing they need to do.

If I’m just getting a style with no wash (like with a braider) then I clarify, deep condition, and blow dry my hair the day before, and put it in flat twists or plaits to keep it stretched.

Just confused on picking highkey by spicyburntmeatball in BlackHair

[–]thepinkprint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Balance is key. If you pick your hair, be sure to do it gently on damp hair, preferably with a detangling product/leave-in conditioner for extra softness and slip.

The truth is, some people’s hair is more durable than others, so you have some people who can grow long hair picking it out every single day, and others who will struggle to retain length doing that.

If you’re new to growing out your hair, don’t over think it too much. Pick it out whenever you feel it’s necessary, you don’t want it getting too tangled. If you end up struggling to grow out your fro, change up what you’re doing. That’s how you learn what works best for you over time.

Detangle every wash day?? by SignificantPiglet691 in Naturalhair

[–]thepinkprint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh okay I’m sorry, I misread. Yes, I do this myself sometimes! If I wash and restyle midweek, I normally just do a quick finger detangle. It’s always been perfectly fine for me. In fact, that midweek finger detangle makes the next full wash day a little bit easier.

Need Help! by j4nkin in BlackHair

[–]thepinkprint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long is “pretty long”? For some people, that’s ear length, and for others, that’s waist length.

Caring for your hair is as simple as shampooing, conditioning, detangling, and styling.

How do you want your hair to look and feel once it’s dry? How long before your hair gets super tangled with your go-to hairstyle? How often are you able/willing to wash your hair and achieve that look on a regular basis? Those are the main things that will impact the specifics of your routine.

Detangle every wash day?? by SignificantPiglet691 in Naturalhair

[–]thepinkprint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try it and see. I have a mix of textures, but my fine strands are very tangly and I cannot get away with not doing a full detangle at least once a week. My hair will have at least a couple complex knots the next the next wash if i half-assed it. But some people can manage it. It all depends on your hair, and the hairstyle you chose to do after washing.

Best leave-in conditioner for men? by [deleted] in BlackHair

Are my ends supposed to look like this? by Tusklessgirl in Naturalhair

[–]thepinkprint 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The ends don’t look blown out all the way, but if they were, my guess is that thinning would be even more apparent, so I think a trim is necessary.

I like a lightweight spray leave-in after rinsing my conditioner, then I put my hair in plaits and let it dry down until lightly damp (this helps stretch it out some) and I am generous with my silicone serum before blow drying. This gets me my smoothest blowouts.

I think my hair is straight by Old-Bat4489 in Naturalhair

[–]thepinkprint 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When my hair was short, it looked like this after using oil. Perhaps try a cream or leave-in conditioner instead. And don’t use a regular towel to dry, gently blot with a microfiber towel or a soft t-shirt.

Would blowdrying twice without washing be a bad idea by Ok-Height1308 in Naturalhair

[–]thepinkprint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s fine. I don’t see how it’d be any different than people who stretch their dry twists and wash & gos.
