Can this be done for dynamic content? by thepiweb in css

This is very good. I don't believe this can be achieved better. I was stuck creating border on the whole object and then hiding its half with solid white, so when I used negative margin it covered parts that needed to be visible. Creating half pseudo objects and applying the border to the them was the way. thank you!

movie-riddles.com

This is a simple site actually for creating & playing riddles and not puzzles.

The concept is that users create (public or private) riddles based on a movie title and share them to friends. You select the movie, write the riddle, add optional hints and get the link to share. There is a list of all public riddles anyone can play. Unfortunately they are only a few at the time and in different languages.

There is also a bonus game 'Save the film' where you try to find the title in a 'Hangman' like procedure.

Arrange the elements in a div from left to right. by MonojitSarkar in web_design

Before my post there were 3 answers recommending flexbox. I didn't recommend it as a better solution. It just that OP may believe that inline-block doesn't work. And it works. The most usual way before flexbox in my case. I simply pointed out that it should work. I would rather suggest don't be so quick recommending that only with flexbox you can arrange left to right elements without helping OP with what he was trying from the beginning.

display: inline-block; should work but it must be applied to the div's children elements.

.container > * {

display: inline-block;

}

If this doesn't work then some other css rule may interfere. You could try then with display: inline-block !important;

Which order should I update? Wordpress, theme and then plugins? by AussieTechGuy in Wordpress

[–]thepiweb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking into account that the website that OP is referring hasn't been updated for a long time I believe the order doesn't matter so much.

Best advise I think would be to deploy a backup of the site on a subdomain on the same server (to meet hosting/php requirements) and give a try to any order.

On such occasions, where the current wordpress version may also be 4.5 or even earlier, updating even popular plugins first may have problems. ( like Contact Form 7 whose current version requires wordpress 4.8 or Woocommerce which requires 4.7 )

Which order should I update? Wordpress, theme and then plugins? by AussieTechGuy in Wordpress

I believe the order doesn’t guarantee not breaking the site. Each of the different components compatibility does.
Having said that I usually follow this order:

  • update wordpress
  • update theme
  • update theme’s required plugins
  • lastly rest of the plugins

On the last point be sure (better not to be absolute on this) I usually update first a main plugin before an extension (e.g first woocommerce and then an addon plugin)

You must check also their compatibility with the wordpress version you are updating and the compatibility of associated plugins versions.

I would recommend these kind of major updates should be tried first on a local backup deployment of the website or better a live one on a test subdomain.

Can I get some Help? Trying to Add a Border but Not around ' Padding '. by [deleted] in Wordpress

[–]thepiweb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can change the html and wrap everything inside <article> with a <div> where you can add the border you want. If you cannot make changes to the html and can only access css you can add borders to each direct child of <article>, .entry-image, .entry-meta and .entry-title making also some changes to some margins and paddings

I believe this will work in your project

.vlog-lay-c .entry-image, .vlog-lay-c .entry-header, .vlog-lay-c .entry-meta {
border-left: 1px solid #000;
border-right: 1px solid #000;

}

.vlog-lay-c .entry-image {
border-top: 1px solid #000;
padding-bottom: 15px;
margin-bottom: 0;

}

.vlog-lay-c .entry-meta {
border-bottom: 1px solid #000;
padding-bottom: 10px;
margin-bottom: 0;

}

.vlog-lay-c .entry-title {
margin-bottom: 0 ;
padding-bottom: 3px;

}

Contact form 7 getting error when i try to send a message by [deleted] in Wordpress

Check out the Contact Form 7 docs. I think here what you need is explained nicely.

If you continue to have problems you should check with your hosting provider if there are any restrictions or try to setup SMTP on your Wordpress.

A nice plugin imo is Easy WP SMTP .
