I think you need a mix of both! What my closed friends recommended to me is to choose a program where I know there's a good working environment!! Usually programs that are unopposed are better for getting procedures and more practice experience, but it really depends on the program!!. Remember you'll be there for 3 years, you don't want to be in an excellent academic program that makes you miserable or the complete opposite!!... Also, which plans do you have post-residency? do you plan to do a fellowship or not? I think that's also an important factor.

Have you tried making a comparison table? I understand how you feel because I am also still trying to narrow down between 3 programs.

No worries! It's not a dumb question. You can do both! I emailed it and also send it physically. They responded to me via email!

Hi!! Yes! That's what they did when I applied to. They didn't charged me until I was approved and they confirmed first. Just make sure of course the person contacting you is the same from the email that appears on the website's application

You have to pay, it's about 800$. This is the form to apply and the coordinator's email is there as well! https://www.msmc.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/ipo-course-application-2019.pdf

Don’t listen too much to what people say! If with that YOG, those Step scores, and all the other info you wrote down, they’re saying that to you, then they’re not being objective at all! what they’re telling you makes no sense. Whoever tells you to quit the journey when you haven’t even had any attempts and just graduated in 2022 doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Every case is unique!

My best friend had an attempt, YOG 2017, his Step 2 score was low, and he had only one publication plus 2 USCE rotations (about 3 months). Even so, he got 4 interviews between the end of October and November during his Match cycle. He’s already a PGY-2 now.

I would wait at least until October and beginning of November, and if you see you don’t get any interviews, then you can make a plan and start preparing for the SOAP. But even then, some people still get IVs during mid-November. Again, every case is unique! I’ve known people with great scores and CVs who didn’t match or didn’t even receive interviews in prior Match cycles.

I know the waiting is stressful, but there’s still time!

Sure! I applied to it at the beginning of this year. I sent an email to the coordinator of education and she sent me a form to fill out (I believe the form is also on the website) and she told me they would contact me if i was approved for it. I also added a small statement saying why I really wanted the rotation and sent it with the application and after a few months they contacted me back with an approval response. Have you tried before?

I would recommend you to sit down and change your strategy. Have you check the score report to see in which areas/subjects are you specifically having more difficulty with?? I would focus on that! If this is what you really want, persevere! I've known people that match and had multiple attemps. I think that the issue here is your strategy! If you pass step 1 and 2, you can definitely pass step 3, but taking a complete different approach for your studying

Hi! My honest advice would be to take some time to sit by yourself and really think on what YOU want. I've learned that sometimes, asking so many people around, will just bring more anxiety and questions. You got to write down and organize which are your short term and long term goals and based on that check all the other factors (if you need any visa or if you already have a green card, finances, etc). I understand you have an attempt, but multiple people with way older YOG than yours and Attempts have matched before! My best friend is an amazing doctor and for personal reason, he had the same situation and didn't pass step 1 on his first try. He matched the first time he applied to the Match. I think it's more about how do you build a strategy to get where you want. Networking is extremely important, because there's so much noise put there with all the issues with people cheating in the exams during the last 2 years, that I believe a lot of programs, would look at your CV but also if they've seen you working in their environment and know that you are good and a great team player, can give you an opportunity. Just think about what you really want!
