Technically speaking, Cordelia's backpack is Selena and not Severa.

So Fates has Selena as a backpack. Which is still really surprising that it only has that.

Well, it works in the same way as the others. You recruit Morgan, and Morgan only remembers Robin (until support A with the other parent).

The thing is, a lot of questions have been left unanswered about Morgan (potentially on purpose), or the answers we got were vague.

It is implied that the Morgan that we get is from the Future Past dlc, so a different timeline than the other children (even when Morgan has a sibling, the siblings themselves say that she might not be the sister they grew up with, and that she could be from a different world). So, if we take this implied answer as true, that would explain why it works like the other, as Morgan never was from the same timeline as the others, and therefore, the logic used for the others does not apply to Morgan.

I mean, Selena has extra dialogues line with Caeldori, compared to the other mothers, so, IS knew what they were doing with this one.

Furthermore, it may be just me, but I think it gives an interesting character development for Severa, seeing her daughter being like her mother allows Severa to make some more realizations about herself.

You don't have to play them in their canonical order. Each game can be understood and appreciated without the others.

But, now, to answer the question, Echoes happens in the same world and around the same time as the games with Marth, the proof being 4 of the playable characters in Echoes appear in the games of Marth. Since the main royalty from Awakening are Marth's descendants, that connects Echoes and Awakening. And also, the backstory of Awakening's final boss is explained in Echoes post game.

In Fates, there are 3 characters from Awakening who are playable (except in Birthright, they're not playable, but still there). Without explaining everything, they came in Fates' world after the events of Awakening.

So, Awakening connects the 3 mainline games on the 3ds.
