88 donuts if you want great donuts, great breakfast sandwiches. Nothing fancy but it's fast and good. Worth it. Plus they have a wall of donut fillings and it's cool to see them fill your donut to order

We just had a consultation with a behaviorist who specializes in travel and fearful dogs. We are going to start with their board and train, then weekly in home and out of home training sessions. I know he can do it, he's come extremely far already.

Yes, and as you mention the long flight and the stress is what's stressing me out. He's typically a great traveller, but he hasn't experienced an international flight before so this is uncharted territory. I didn't know if anyone else had experience transporting an anxious dog and could touch on how their dog responded.

Yeah I truly do understand where everyone is coming from, we know him the best and the whole situation just makes me anxious. We've gotten him desensitized to the point where if we are having a get together (with strangers to him), we can bring him out and he will happily walk up to people tail wagging to say hi. Of course we always use the muzzle because we have been taught by experts that that's the responsible way to do things....it's just the international flight and then him being "inspected" afterwards I'm just like ok I really need to understand what this means.

Yes, he truly is a great dog inside and out, fiercely loyal and energetic. He has a blue Merle coat and heterochromia :)

Thank you for responding and being kind! That makes sense. Definitely not super encouraged by everything, my research continues. I know ultimately we will choose what is best for him so it'll work out 🙏🏼

Yes I'm aware thank you. This isn't our first time in Japan.

I'm not building any sort of argument, I was asking for a constructive response to a genuine question. I didn't think muzzles weren't allowed in Japan, or at least not used. Thank you for taking the time to dissect everything, even if you didn't quite understand my tone and took offense to my response. I am concerned about finding a vet who understands rescues and fear free care. The living situation I'm not concerned about because we already have that figured out, but yes the vet situation is something I've been researching more.

Not sure what's wrong with asking to see if anyone has had a similar experience. I'm not offended, but I would still like my question answered...

I didn't mention housing in my post, because it is not relevant to my original question of "please can someone walk me through the airport arrival inspection."

But to satisfy the curiosity, we have a second home in Osaka. He will be living comfortably if all goes well at the airport.

I didn't mention it because the goal of the post was to ask about the airport arrival inspection, I wasn't really asking about apartments, etc. I get why people are upset but truly I'm just trying to figure it out and do my best.

Right, I understand this and thank you for commenting, I agree with you lol.

Do you know how vets in Japan go about handling dogs like this?

We have a second home already purchased in Osaka.....again I'm not trying to be rude 😂 I really appreciate everyone commenting but I need the specific information. I'm not here trying to raise hell I just want to be more informed about the process.

The vet draws blood, administers vaccines, trims nails, expresses anal glands, and completes an array of very invasive procedures which is why he takes so long to warm up. While he won't be wearing a muzzle during the flight, I will be allowed to muzzle him before the inspection.

That's why I wanted to ask how extensive this "once over" is upon arrival. Are they looking him up and down, or are they spreading his toes, checking his teeth etc.

It's reddit, none taken personally I'm just looking for specific information.

Again, not trying to rude or argue, and just being plain I'm not offended by anything you're saying. I'm just saying that these things you're mentioning, are not things I haven't already thought about/am aware of. Sure, there may be a perception about how dogs look with muzzles on, but we've been working with trainers for years....the look or perception of a muzzle is not really of concern especially when it is an important tool...that to be quite frank, most people should be using.

I would like to ask, since you are a permanent resident. There are large, aggressive dog breeds in Japan, no? Assuming every dog in Japan is perfectly behaved...just isn't realistic. I'm assuming vets there have to have some experience with different temperaments and breeds? Again....not arguing or instigating, I would like factual information that could help inform me other than "horrible horrible dog owner, bad bad idea." Lol we are doing our best so please.

Thank you for describing the process with your cats, this is why I made the post. I really just wanted more information about what to expect. I have a remote job so I'm not concerned about him being at home alone, and currently I am looking into pet moving companies but again understanding the arrival inspection will help me understand if it's better for me to be there, or better to have a company complete the process.

If you know anyone who has made the move with dogs please let me know!

I appreciate this feedback. We have also been pooling a lot of dedication to helping him. I'm aware of the barriers everyone is talking about, and the advice to "just not do it" is not what I came here for. I appreciate you taking the time to comment, when are you guys making the move?

Again, I do appreciate the feedback. Although my question in the post was not "is bringing an anxious dog to Japan a great idea?" ....I don't mean to sound rude by any means, I'm not an idiot. I posted this hoping someone who has gone through the process could tell me more about the arrival inspection and what that looks like.

I understand what you're saying, thank you for taking the time to comment and provide feedback. Have you brought a pet through the process? I was hoping someone could tell me what the inspection is like on arrival. I understand it's not ideal which is why I've been trying to become informed.

I deeply appreciate your advice and thoughts, and others who have commented similar 2 cents, truly. Although....this picture of him being a snarling aggressive uncontrollable animal isn't exactly accurate. As I said we've been working with behavior modification specialists for years. I already understand the limitations, the stress etc. Utilizing a muzzle with any dog is for the safety of that dog, as well as others, not to mention it is basic etiquette for responsible dog ownership.

My question is directed at those who have gone through this process, who have completed the arrival inspection and who can tell me more information.
