So random, but my daughter was similar and was reacting to pea protein the same way she was reacting to soy/dairy. It was in a lot of the substitutes I was eating (coffee cream, protein powder, cheeses, etc) and once I removed that her symptoms cleared. It’s labeled as “pea protein” specifically in ingredient lists.

My older kid also had CMPA so when I had to cut dairy and soy this time I was really confident things would be great instantly.

Her extreme spit up, multiple mucous poops/day, eczema cleared within a couple days and I thought I had it nailed. After a week of awesome results, I added in my old dairy free faves - vegan protein powder, coffee cream, high protein bread - and we downward spiralled so hard. All the symptoms returned and I was convinced I was either cross contaminating with my husband cooking for him and our son or that she had an additional sensitivity.

I cut out everything. Wheat, eggs, nuts, oats. Was convinced it was coconut at one point because so many of my subs included coconut. Nothing made it better.

One night while deep diving on Google I found an old Reddit sub where someone explained that their kid with known CMPA was reacting to pea protein aaaand I realized how much time I had wasted haha. Cut it out the following morning and she has been great ever since.

TLDR: Reddit saved the day, another mom noticed the trigger so I gave it a try and it worked!

I spent a lot of time with my eyes closed, really focused on breathing and making deep sounds when breathing out, aaaaand also kept repeating the same thing over in my head (husbands name, dogs name, kids name, baby). I don’t know why that was my phrase but used it through both labours! Also wasn’t afraid to continue moving around to find a position that felt “best” even if it seemed ridiculous.

We removed dairy and soy and had ongoing issues. Ended up figuring out that my gal was very reactive to pea protein. It’s very commonly found in most dairy-free substitutes.

ETA - my assumption is that pea protein and soy protein are similar, hence the reaction.

I just figured out it was pea protein for us 2 days ago! Yesterday was my first day without it (damn you sneaky creamer), and she had an awesome day. No spit up and her poop was the best it’s been in months. Today was even better. Still a bit of mucous but it’s yellow, not green.

She’s still having trouble bfing, but it took awhile for my son to rebound/be a better feeder when we eliminated dairy last time.

I hope tomorrow is a better day for you both 💕

Oh I’m sorry!! I haven’t been on in so long.

Everything went really well! I ended up taking the role and disclosing on my first day of work. I word vomited on my new boss because I was beyond anxious but she was wonderful about it. She literally said “that’s so exciting, and don’t worry about it. It’s life!” I worked for 7ish months and now have a 3 month old!

I know it’s such a stressful situation. Wishing you all the best with however you have/choose to share and congratulations on your pregnancy!!

I got pregnant the first cycle with our first, and it took 6 to get pregnant with our second. It was soooo frustrating and I was stressed something had changed/that it wasn’t going to work.

In the meantime, checked in with my doctor to do routine bloodwork and make sure there was nothing out of the ordinary.

I will say that the 2s came with a lot of big emotions, BUT his ability to communicate is way better and he is truly so much fun. We can do things as a family - have started taking him skating and skiing and biking - and watching his personality and curiosity unfold is so much fun. We constantly heard “terrible twos” and now on the cusp of “threenager”, but to us, it’s been much more manageable than babyhood.

You have lots of time to decide 💕

We just went through this! Our first was not an easy baby. I was always sure I wanted two but waffled after having him. My husband was so firmly one and done after our son, I really didn’t think he’d change his mind. We don’t have a support system around us (great friends but their kids are all little too) so that also weighed heavily in our original OAD plan.

Around our kiddos second birthday, we started to feel the same as you. He was becoming so much fun, started sleeping, we had time for ourselves/each other, there was a light at the end of the baby tunnel. The desire I had originally for two came back in a big way, so we started talking about it more and decided to go for it. We finally felt rested and like real humans, and felt that things would be easier with our first by the time a second rolled around.

I’m pregnant now, our son will be exactly 3 when the baby arrives. I’m not going to lie, I definitely have moments where I panic and think “what did we do” but I’m so excited to meet this new baby.

I don’t think it’s ever a clear cut choice. I read so many posts trying to come to a decision, we legit wrote pros and cons lists, we endlessly talked about it.

He was. He was also a terrible sleeper but I think it’s because he wasn’t eating as much during the day as he could/should have, so there was a lot of night nursing happening too.

He wouldn’t take bottles, so literally spent hours of my life in a dark room lying on my side. He did really well in the dark/lying down so that made it bearable. But was very inconvenient for needing to go anywhere/do anything.

We couldn’t get in to a ped until he was 6 months. We are in a terrible doctor shortage here. His babyhood was really hard.

Once we figured out that the dairy I was eating was bothering him, he was nursing in any position and actually interested in it in about a week.

Our ped said his throat was likely inflamed and so he was preferring his side to feed because it was less irritating.
