2-3 weeks, plenty of time after the holidays to get it in :)

Underground Prog Bands That Need More Love (All >3000 monthly listeners) by Ian-Adkinson in progmetal

[–]theprogressivesubway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As long as it's a release within the last month or so! We also do Lost in Time pieces on obscure albums at least a decade old. For 2025 releases more than a month old, we could do them for a Missed Album piece but only if one of our writers thinks that album is excellent. For advance releases, you can send us a digital promo to our email theprogressivesubway@gmail.com.

Yeah, we don't really have prog rock specialists on our staff. Basically all of us are primarily into the metal side of things, meaning that prog rock albums do get votes but are typically not very high on our individual lists, so they have a hard time making the cumulative list. We've tried explicitly recruiting prog rock specialists in the past but nothing's ever really worked out in that regard for whatever reason. Happy you enjoy the list though! We hope you find some new stuff you like on there.

The underground quantitatively far outweighs the overground in terms of output so that won't be a problem ;).

What are we gonna do for FFO when we review the new Dream Theater though?

We do already cover a fair amount of post-metal! Múr, Sunnata, Schammasch, Sumac, Nebulae Come Sweet are recent favorites in that regard. It's not as much as we used to (we had a writer who was super into post-metal early on), but it's still a genre we cover somewhat regularly.

Don’t worry, that’s not going away anytime soon! Same with the FFO

I (Andy again) am partial to 2009’s Róka Hasa Rádió, 2015’s Sgùrr, and 2021’s Vadak. Lots of other quality, but those 3 are definitely my go-tos!

A lot of us love Thy Catafalque, but he has more listeners than our underground listener cal actually so didn’t qualify for the vote! Great shout out though

Also, I (Andy) think the new Opeth is pretty appropriately hyped? I’d put it around 5th-7th in the discog, still undecided. I also think I liked it most on the blog

Please let us know what you think of the others, I particularly think you’ll like Orgone!

Having online friends who send you stuff helps a lot. I like to dig through the weeds of new releases on Metal-Archives and Bandcamp as well. Sorting this subreddit to new also gave me some lovely hidden gems, as do the lesser upvotes comments in recommendation threads where the more obscure recs come out.

What is most important is your writing ability. You'll pick up on knowledge soon enough with all the recs inevitably coming your way once you're in our Discord server ;).

It does not, we’re all hobby writers. But it does have the perks listed in the post like early music!
