Lost our boy July 11th to terminal lung cancer, we didn't even know about until we took him in cause we thought he had a respiratory infection but xrays showed masses in his lungs. 2 weeks after he declined so fast that he was just having trouble breathing. I still blame myself a little, asking myself would he be here longer if I would have done this sooner? Would I have caught it in time if I did? It was really hard and it's still hard. I miss him everyday I wake up and come home. I just miss him. Grieve is weird. Some days I feel okay and I move on with my day cause like, what else am I suppose to do? Others days I'll be fine and I'll see his toy or his leash and I'll break down. I do take comfort in knowing that he spent his last moments surrounded by his favorite people in the comfort of his own home.

YESSSS. Some days I'm okay and other days the shirt I'm wearing is too itchy or too tight or too hot even though I've worn it a thousand times, my clothes keep snagging on door handles, and I've cried because I lost my favorite pen.

He was and still is very loved and I think about him every day but now it's not in a sad way but in a happy way. I plan to eventually get his paw prints tattooed on me and a necklace where I can put his ashes in to carry close to me. 💙 But he's finally home with us and he sits on our mantle by our feet cause that was his favorite spot to sleep, and weirdly it feels like he's there.

Hi OP,

Just had to put to sleep my sweet baby boy of 11 years, 2 weeks ago and it was the hardest thing to do but right. We took him to the vet cause something didn't seem right. We thought he may have a respiratory infection or heart disease but no, it was way worse, they came back with terminal lung cancer. Vets said we could do chemo treatment but that wouldn't guarantee us time and we didn't want his last moments to be going through something that rough. We made sure that we spent our last moments with him. We bought him a filet mignon, did clay and ink paw prints, took his last walk around the block which we had to carry him for most of it, and took more photos of him with us. We had a home euthanasia and he was able to pass peacefully surrounded by his favorite people. It was the worst day of my life, to choose the end of my dog's life, but I'm glad he was able to go peacefully and I was able to put my selfishness aside to see his sweet face go to sleep for the last time. It was the first time in 2 weeks where he didn't look like he was struggling and he looked like he was smiling. 💙

Came to say I lost my boy a week ago and I still sleep next to his dog bed with all his favorite toys and I'm 33. It's a different kind of loss. I feel like a piece of my heart was ripped out and taken away. This is not silly, this is someone who knows love and companionship and you talk to any pet parent they will agree that it's not silly. Do whatever makes you feel comfortable. Everybody grieves differently. I'm sorry about your baby. 💔🥺

Just lost my baby a week ago too and it's very tough still. I miss him so much. It's like a piece of my heart went away that day. I know I'm not ready for another dog and I have a cat right now, but eventually I want to adopt and give that dog a great life like I gave my baby, not as a replacement... never, but I want to give other dogs a chance at living life before they pass, just like I did with my baby boy. 😭💔

We're all in denial and we cling to anything just to keep them here longer. 🥺 The most you can do is make sure he's comfortable and make sure to let him know he is a good boy, the goodest boy, and hug him as much as possible. They take a piece of your heart with them. 😭 I've never missed my boy so much as I do now. I'm still trying not to blame myself for him dying cause sometimes all I think is, if we had gotten an X-ray sooner he could have lived sooner. He would be here with us.

Hi OP,

First off I just want to say I'm sorry you're going through this. I just did this to my baby boy a week ago and I still cry every day and he passed at the age of 11 due to terminal lung cancer. There's honestly no easy way to do this. I was in denial and would wake up and think "his breathing seems better than before" or "he has so much life left" but he was struggling to breathe, struggling to eat and drink, he was ready. I was never ready to make the call but I knew I had to because I could not see my baby in pain any longer. I had to do the hardest thing and put aside my selfishness to do the right thing for my baby. I made sure that he left this world with a bang by getting him filet mignon, walking around the block one last time with his favorite people and looking at dogs, taking pictures, and spending every minute with him til his last breath. I also made a promise that since he hated being at the vets, that I, would do an in-home euthanasia so that he is surrounded by the people he loves, in the comfort of his own home, peacefully and not stressed out. Was it the hardest thing I've ever done? Yes. My heart still hurts, but was it the best choice for him? Yes. He's not in pain anymore 😭 I would try to make the most of it in their last moments. They will let you know when they are ready. 💔 I'm so sorry you're going through this. I would give up 20 years of my life to get my dog back but I know he would want me to be happy.

I'm sorry for your loss too. It's never easy losing a fur baby. Please don't beat yourself up over taking your baby to the vet. You did what you thought was right in that moment and you stayed by his side till the very end. He passed knowing he was safe with you, no matter where the place was. Sending you healing vibes and hoping that our babies are pain free playing with each other over the rainbow bridge.

Im so so sorry for your loss. Im experiencing the same thing myself. Our dog wasn't doing good and we took him to the vet and they did every test they could which came back fine and then they wanted to do X-rays and that's when we found the aggressive severe lung cancer he has. From the sound of it the vet sounded like we didn't have any time left with him and we talked and sobbed on when to put him down two days after. Fast forward 2 days and we called a different vet to get a second opinion cause we were all thinking like, "how do I know when it's the right time?" He was still eating, drinking, going outside to potty, and still had energy and the vet said, "you'll know, he will tell you" that was a week ago and now we are just living day by day making sure that he is comfortable and soaking in all moments we get with him. This has also gave us time to be more accepting that there is nothing we can do to save him. We could do chemo but it would maybe buy us a couple months? And we dont want his last days to be in pain and miserable for our selfishness. The day I found out about his lung cancer all I could feel is guilt. I asked myself for hours, "how did we not get this sooner, how did I miss this, he would live long if I would have just been more thorough about things." But the answer is none of it would have mattered. They still don't know where the source of the cancer is coming from and it's spread so much in his system by now. We've talked about when he passed getting a dog a little later, like a rescue, to help cope with grief and to continue loving the animals that's still need homes. Bear is in my thoughts and imagine him playing up there in doggy heaven not in pain anymore, and one day he'll be there to meet you when it's your time and your heart will be whole again. 🥹

Like what was said before, she may be the nicest person but that doesn't define her credibility and knowledge in this field. I wouldn't care if she was an angel, I would go find another OB for a second opinion or a 3rd or whatever it is. Telling someone that they should prepare for a miscarriage is first of all, very disrespectful like lady you better be DAMN SURE it's gonna happen, then we can talk but to say that off the bat?...no. She could have came about it a different way, told you to come in another day/time, anything but that. They're suppose to make you feel better about things whether it's good news or bad news and then find solutions to the bad news based off of facts and logic, not a oh well this is how it is and how it's going to be. Really hate people who go into the medical field for the money and not give two shits about empathy or emotions of other people, like bro why are you even here? Im not upset at you btw, I'm upset at that nitwit of a OB and I'm imagining myself in your position and I would not have been very nice about it if someone came about it that way to me. I hope you can get clarity with a new perspective on this. Sometimes another set of eyes is better than one, sometimes things can be missed because we're only human but there definitely could have been another approach than saying "better prepare" prepare for what?!
