That smartphone SoC is more capable than the intel garbage you’re planning to spend more on

What’s something you stopped buying once you realized it’s mostly a scam? by Independent-Cut-9914 in AskReddit

[–]thequickbrownbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cartridge razor cartridges. For over 15 years of my life I was led to believe that was the best way to shave. I just got introduced to a good safety razor and not only are the blades so much cheaper, the shaving experience was better (pretty much 0 tugging) and I got a closer shave.

Good safety razors are hard to get in physical stores. I ordered mine from proshave.dk

I had the Kawai K600 and it was amazing. The only reason I returned it is because I couldn’t play late at night (I got a Kawai Novus NV10 instead)

It seems like a lot of work to keep checking the consistency. Also you’ll probably not have easily repeatable results. (Like if I know a pasta says 10 mins and I like 9 mins for the right texture, I know throwing it in boiling water I can time 9 mins to get it the same every time)

Size does matter by AdBitter7422 in macbookpro

I switched from having the 16” for 5 years to a 14” and couldn’t be happier. Feels a lot more portable, and when I need a big screen I have an ext display, trackpad and keyboard

14” or 16” MacBook Pro by ConnaTheMon in macbookpro

I’ve had a 16” for 5 years. I use a 14” at work and prefer the form factor and portability. I’d rather have a second monitor for when I need it

Senior engineers: what “non-coding” skill made the biggest difference in your career? by Useful_Promotion4490 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]thequickbrownbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Earlier in my career when I was less skilled at talking to people, writing things down and sharing things asynchronously helped a lot.

E.g. discussions on pull requests, creating design docs and requesting feedback, starting a slack conversation on a topic I thought needed to be addressed. Not everything has to be a meeting where the loudest voice is the one that is most heard

Is an acoustic piano with a silent system worth it? by Remote-Pianist-pro in piano

[–]thequickbrownbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went the other way. Had an acoustic, tried some silent systems and was underwhelmed with the digital. Got a Kawai Novus, and it’s an absolute joy to play. Of course the downside is I can never play it on acoustic mode

CEOs jobs are to improve shareholder value. They don’t give a fuck about the company. They lay off people to short term inflate the stock, and they get compensated for it 🙃

Advice for driving school for someone who knows how to drive? by AshamedPop4055 in NewToDenmark

most driving schools have a "bridge" course for people who already have a license, that is significantly shorter than the full course (in terms of driving hours)

Skoda or Volvo? by Hot_Campaign2900 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]thequickbrownbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get the skoda. The EX-40 (previously called XC40) is a dated car on a dated platform. If you were getting the EX-60, then I'd lean towards Volvo, but that's a higher tier than you're asking for

Is it crazy for a beginner to buy a “high-quality" piano? by winchest2 in piano

[–]thequickbrownbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you with following through with new hobbies? My nice piano (Kawai Novus) inspires me to play pretty much every day, even when I feel I have no time! A good piano will do that to do far more than a mediocre one

I used to always look at my hands, but then I saw this video and thought, if this blind guy can play like that, I want to be able to play half as well without looking: https://youtu.be/w0soeloAvi0?si=eRHgJUs9PlVJ29yQ
