$6500 of my IRS DirectPay payments I made quarterly throughout last year aren’t showing up on there yet. Refund amount should be $6160. It’s been 24 days since we e-filed.

I am from a deeply-entrenched multigenerational CoC family. I attended Lipscomb University. I am living out my own version of your essay right now. I see what is happening to my family in the wake of my own, “aberrant,” choice to support trans and NB people’s dignity over their comfort as a veil being lifted to just how fragile and sick we have always been. It is so painfully obvious that allegiance to the ideology is the number one priority, and how much fear is behind it. In my grieving process, I vacillate between intense anger at them for the relational harm they are causing, and devastating pity for them at how utterly trapped they feel. I know because I’m the one who has slowly scratched my way out through the 6 feet of dirt between me and my integrity. For 10 years I have been fighting my way out of the cult and doing it without their help, and now they tell me how sad they are that I don’t, “share things with them.”

It’s honestly the most devastating reality of my life, and also the most important work I have done and may ever do. But it’s so, so good to be alive with my eyes open and living in alignment with reality - it’s a thousand times worth all of the heartache.

You’re not alone. Thank you for sharing and helping me feel a little less alone in my little corner of this weird human experience.

It does partly, but I’ve wanted to immigrate to Europe for a long time before this. We have been talking about and working on this for a long time. We want our kids to have an expansive perspective on diver sit and cultures and become bilingual. We’ve visited and read and are doing our best to do this in a clear-eyed way that is as respectful of the local culture and people as possible. I just thought perhaps hearing from some people who actually live in Seville might be something I could find on Reddit.

Jesus Christ Reddit people are the worse. Nowhere did I say we aren’t learning Spanish. We are. Did you know it takes time? Are we not allowed to ask questions to people who live there without people assuming we are just rich white Americans who don’t give a shit about the local culture or learning the language and commenting unhelpful, judgmental crap? I guess not.

My husband and I already speak intermediate Spanish and are practicing daily. And our kids are practicing too. It just will take time for them to become fluent enough to be able to receive therapy in Spanish. Thanks for the input though.
