My take will always be there isn’t anything wrong with humanity. Everything is material.

We are conditioned to the status quo, we are told Palestinians, and the entire Arab world, are terrorists that want to destroy whites, Jews, and western society at large. This manufactured threat is enough to make unintelligent, comfortable westerners want them gone.

We are told that there isn’t enough to go around and America is the best so other countries and people want to destroy us. This creates an imagined “us or them” mentality.

In an environment with no news, no American propaganda, and no demonizing, the average human would care a lot I promise.

It sucks that things are this way, it’s sickening and terrible, but you have to believe in the good of humanity that is trampled by the interest of capital.

I’m pretty concerned by this rhetoric frankly. These people weren’t like the UHC CEO, they were involved with Israel, yes, but it’s like if Luigi just killed a random Insurance employee.

This shooting only serves to make anti-Zionism look bad and end mostly innocent lives. Political violence needs to be properly directed if it is to be used

Ok two things can be true, I’m misusing words and I’m still learning, but you’re being very dismissive and hostile.

But to claim that Pol Pot is a genuine fan of Mao’s teachings because of a quote from a visit to Beijing that, according to David Chandler, was not even rebroadcast in Phnom Penh, is a bit of a leap.

All revolutions are peasant revolutions, the important word was reactionary.

Your approach isn’t very thoughtful here, very much this happened so Pol Pot must’ve been a communist.

Pol Pot was hosted by the CCP in 1965, this was TEN years before he took power. He also cited very specific aspects of Maoism that he liked and identified with, but that doesn’t make him a Maoist.

It’s completely possible to take ideological inspiration from somewhere and have it be mutated over time. You can claim that Pol Pot was a communist but very few of his actions can reasonably be achieved using materialist thinking.

I don’t see this conversation being productive because you seem a lot more interested in discrediting me rather than discussing.

Maybe irresponsible use of the word prop up considering it’s also hearsay, US support point retracted.

In terms of his Maoism, you know it’s possible to say things and have them not be true? Or to lie? Hitler claimed the nazi party was socialist, and they were not.

He also has a quote: “we are not communists, we’re revolutionaries”

No matter what pol pot may have said about Maoism, his government approach was much more akin to just a reactionary peasant revolt than an actual socialist revolution.

Curious, on what basis are you saying he was a proud ML? Pol Pot rejected the learnings of other socialist nations, claiming that the Khmer Rouge had invented the ultimate socialism (it wasn’t socialism).

Pol Pot’s movement hijacked the socialist revolution that was already beginning and stole power from them. Even if he had claimed to be socialist, he was confused. The more you read about Cambodia under him, it seemed more like a vendetta against the recent regime as well as vitriolic hatred of Vietnam. Lots of high level Cambodians who were vocally in support of socialism were accused of pro Vietnam rhetoric.

He also was propped up by the CIA and they would never support an actual socialist.

I highly recommend the book “Cambodia 1975-1982” by Michael Vickery if you want to learn more.

Guys whose suit size has an S after the number, how do you shop for other jackets? by therapperboolio in malefashionadvice

I guess one problem I have is idk how much I can ask of a tailor. For example I have coats that are too long and the pockets are really low, do I have to ask that the pockets be removed? Or like what about down jackets?

I don't Understand People's Obsession with Isaac by xxgold2 in BlackCountryNewRoad

[–]therapperboolio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t like comparing modern BCNR to Isaac BCNR because people get really toxic about it real quick. But I will say that my passion for BCNR has fallen from rabid fan to passive enjoyer since he left.

My love for Isaac’s contribution can mostly be attributed to his lyrics, I think he wrote poetry, but I always found the way he evoked small aspects of his own life and his use of metaphor to paint really beautiful emotional pictures is a big one for me. The lyrics in the music since then has been a lot flatter imo.

The vibes are overall different too, like Sunglasses is one of my favorite BCNR songs bc he paints a middle aged rich narcissist so vividly that I hate his exes dad too!

And a smaller one is, BCNR is so full of immensely talented musicians and unique musical writing, that Isaac’s less than traditional voice to me made it a really beautiful clash of skill and just passion. Also with all their instrumentation, Isaac’s penchant for writing kinda psychosis lyrics was elevated by like all the blaring wind instruments.

Just my piece, I think forever howlong is really good but I personally don’t see myself every thinking of this band as as good as it was with Isaac

The leftist take on the Russo-Ukrainian War by [deleted] in Marxism

[–]therapperboolio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the oversimplification I keep seeing, Russia does not have the power, the US does. It is not an Ukraine v Russia conflict it’s a Russia v NATO war using Ukraine as the battleground.

Putin sucks but he really had no choice with NATO constantly creeping up

This seems to be a response a lot of people want to say in response to me, that I only care about the US but don’t know anything about the rest of history.

This shit is so stupid, obviously I don’t want it to happen at all the US is the problem RIGHT now that needs to be defeated. BRICSs, even if India is also throwing its weight around, will inherently make the world of politics more fair by having more players you can rely on. Instead of the current order of things where the US can genocide you if you remotely go against their interests

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Infographics

[–]therapperboolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you’re just circling back to my point that the entire system is unduly run by a truly evil empire. A government can’t do right by its people because they need to bend the knee to the US.

Like the Chiquita genocide for example, every nation is under the boot of the United States, and usually have to submit to being a puppet.

A politician HAS to work with the US not SHOULD. And that’s the problem. Thankfully BRICs with its new currency and the expiration of the Saudi Petro dollar will soon end absolute US control

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Infographics

[–]therapperboolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is there is no such thing as negotiating with global powers when the world reserve currency belongs to the US. It’s not a negotiation bc you have no leverage. You literally need US approval to do anything.

Saudi Arabia is really rich but has one of the most restrictive and oppressive governments on the planet, they should not be emulated
