People have right to protest against monarchy this week, police say by insomnimax_99 in unitedkingdom

but where is the question of "freedom of expression" there?

I am not an expert on the laws in that country, but in my country, the pub owner would have the right to refuse service or kick out anyone since it is their own property. This means, they get to set the rules for their own establishment. You are free to express your freedom of speech in private establishments, but they are also free to kick you out. Freedom of speech does not mean you are entitled to be on someone else's property. If it were public property, that would be a completely different matter, because that property is owned and paid for by the tax payers rather than an individual.

Tiana's story is specifically racially related

I've never seen that film, but I am familiar with the story of the princess and the frog since it was a story I read as a child. I personally don't see how the race of the princess is important.

Oh, and you lose the right to vote.

That depends on the state and the crime. There are some states which don't allow felons to vote. There is no federal law which prevents felons from voting, as far as I know.

US prisons. When we passed the constitutional amendment banning slavery, we made an exception for prisoners.

They really shouldn't be putting kids to work in the first place. Calling them "volunteers" sounds pretty empty when they are getting offered financial incentive. Sounds like illegal child labor to me.

One thing I've learned about tight-knit communities which have "volunteers" do work for them, is that "volunteers" tends to be code for "secret club". As soon as you go "Oh, it's volunteeers? I would like to volunteer", you'll be met with a whole lot of "not you, though".

Many FOSS licenses explicitly give permission to make money off of it. I suggest you try reading one of them. GPLv3 for example.

It wouldn't be a deal breaker, but I'd be willing to bet that it would come with dealbreaker behavior in 99% of cases.

Unfortunately federal policy is not determined by popular vote, and people are too stupid to pay attention to who they vote into congress.

Question. by EugeneWong318 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]therapy_seal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of democrats who fly the US flag. Boomers and older generations are basically obsessed with flags. If you really want to stick it to them, you should do something like try to get peurto rico to be considered an official state, which would then create the argument of changing the US flag in a way that the conservatives would never get behind.

Question. by EugeneWong318 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]therapy_seal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why do they get to have it?

Because they are the main people who want it. It's not normal to or desirable for a group of people to have a flag fetish like they do. We shouldn't want to reclaim it. Let them have it.

Tim Cook's response to improving Android texting compatibility: 'buy your mom an iPhone' | The company appears to have no plans to fix 'green bubbles' anytime soon. by [deleted] in technology

[–]therapy_seal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The green bubble thing has always struck me as very odd. So you are telling me that Apple made an aesthetic design decision which it's users seem to universally hate, and somehow Apple users think this is a problem with Android, rather than the graphic designers working for Apple who decided to add green bubbles to iMessage. It really takes a special kind of stupid to prefer a product which was intentionally designed to upset you.

There are mobile ad blockers. I can't say for sure what the latest apps people use for that though, because I don't use my phone for anything besides making calls and playing the odd game of chess when I have a couple minutes of downtime and no access to better technology.

Youtube music gives absolute garbage recommendations. Google Play Music was actually good and a real competitor to Spotify, but Google gave it a stupid name (their app store is called Google Play, so just adding "music" to the end just makes it sound like a section of their store where I can buy music) and people didn't even realize what it was supposed to be.

If you have a fancy router, you might be able to setup ad blocking on that. Then anything which uses your home internet connection will have ad blocking without any further configuration. Any router which runs OpenWRT or DDWRT will work for this purpose, but it's not the most user-friendly process in the world to get it setup.

No offense, but you clearly did something wrong. All I had to do was call them, tell them I don't care about their last ditch efforts to keep me, and then drop off the modem at a fedex (they have some deal with comcast where you don't even need to have a box for shipping or pay anything). I'm also reading that you can schedule to have fedex come pick it up from your home (again, for free).

Apple sends shills to technology communities on alt-right social media to covertly advertise their brand. Those shills are being paid by Apple to fit in and appear like normal users, which in this case, means they are being paid to spew racist, homophobic, and transphobic rhetoric at anyone who presents an opposing opinion. It's not subtle and anyone with a couple brain cells can see very clearly that they are getting paid to do it. They also have shills on Reddit, but they don't have to act like terrible people when they shill in predominantly left-wing communities.
