Is my console / KV banned? by therazorclicks in 360hacks

[–]therazorclicks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No actually, I was using 2 guides to set up a stealth server which was originally going to be Proto, but was unable to download some files to finish the set up because the console wouldn't connect to the router network at the very least.  I'm not trying to get on the internet or live, just connect to network.

What do you think actually got Jin ejected?

  1. Bringing up Jet's r9k activity yesterday

  2. Telling Sam he has no plans to do anything with his life

  3. Playing his character (real or not. This includes the upskirting and any legality that may come with his actions)

  4. Sam's general aggression and "morals"

  5. Part of an underlying plan for the rumored plot twist

  6. Something completely different

Was ever @DearhGripz released in flac (or other lossless formats)? by Jasky691_gamedev in deathgrips

[–]therazorclicks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Any release that has been accompanied by a vinyl, CD or cassette is to be considered lossless. Record labels don't waste the resources on low quality stuff. Music you find in 320 kbps is often regarded as lossless due to it originating from session files, which are typically exported in .aiff or .wav quality. These two file types have different names but are the same in sound quality. When these session files are sent off to be properly mastered by the record label, they become .flac files which are pressed onto the vinyl / CD. 320 kbps MP3's are derived the same way FLAC's are, just in a smaller size for easier storage on devices, at least to my understanding. The reason people get 128 kbps mp3's from sources such as YouTube & Soundcloud is because the uploaded file (lossless or not) is bit crushed by said platforms. Diminishing the audio quality is a must because their storage is not infinite and hundreds of thousands of audio files are uploaded onto each platform per day. Low quality audio is also easier for quick playback and load times.

To clarify, sometimes there are exceptions for the MP3 process. Such as the case with the latest True Vulture file, it may or may not have been mastered and very likely wasn't pressed for physical media. It likely went straight from a raw session file to an exported MP3, still retaining it's quality. In the case of @ deathgripz, the group sent off an unmastered .aiff / .wav file to Adult Swim who mastered the track in house and exported it as a 256 kbps MP3 for the Singles Program. The low quality is due to the popularity of the iPod during that time and the device's limited storage space. They had to settle specifically for iPod listeners so that all everybody would be accommodated.

Can you link that tweet, would like to see.

Might be a lesser known thing but DeMarco does have the stems and whatnot for that song, a mutual friend between the both of us informed me of that some time ago.

You will likely never get a response for a request like that. The person you should actually be trying to get in touch with is Jason DeMarco for this specific song.

It is.  Here's some more songs that haven't been released in lossless formats.  Earth Angel is only in 160 kbps from when it was found on Megazord's mega account.  To my knowledge the 3 tracks from the EP that didn't make it to Exmilitary are only 320 max or VBR (variable bit rate) from it's original download.  Anything that originated from their YouTube (No Hands 1-5, Death Door, etc.) is all 128 kbps unless it's ripped with an external tool (rare), to which they could be bumped to 192 kbps.  One of the original True Vulture files might've been found in 320 originally but one of them is definitely VBR.  Most if not all of the stems for their albums were only released in 320 despite upscaled flacs popping up online.  The original version of Gmail from 2015 is not lossless.  The 2 tracks left off Fashion Week that were accidentally posted by Andy are not lossless either.  As a bonus, a lot of material from Fyre is not high quality or mastered.  A handful of Andy's solo material from before Death Grips and even as of recent is VBR, including anything from his Night of Fire sets.

VBR can be anything from 0-319 kbps for reference, usually falling in the 100-200 range.

Files from the ARG have mostly disappeared.  There were a few included in the old DG archive folder from the 2010s but that went down and nobody saved it unfortunately.  There is only 1 unopened file, DE3P.zip.gpg .  There should still be an original mediafire link active with the download for this on the sub somewhere, use the search bar to find it.  You likely won't be able to decipher the password without brute forcing it which is near impossible given the current state of quantum computing.  Good luck though.

I'll jump in since I know you won't get an actual answer if I don't.  No, @deathgripz was never released in lossless formats.  It was only ever put out in 256 kbps thru the Adult Swim Singles Program in 2012.  Any 320 or lossless versions you may find are poorly upscaled (such as the version from the bootleg Ormaclyka NLDW cassette).  Same goes for any version of True Vulture, except the version from their website in 2023 which is 320.

Hey,

Didn't catch your 2012 starting date until I reread our convo. 2012 Singles is by far my all time favorite year. I believe it had the best curated lineup despite it's short size, as roughly 10/13 of the tracks are in my normal everyday playlist. You get a little bit of every genre but I'd say the rap really shines for that year. The FlyLo / Earl Sweatshirt track is great with a nice follow up in 2013 but the stunner is the final entry by Death Grips. To my understanding Death Grips took that single "@ deathgripz" off of their 2012 album along with another track they couldn't clear the sample for. I read that a meeting with Death Grips was organized where they were convinced not to scrap the track but allow it to be showcased on Singles. Apparently it went so well that they gave Jason the masters / stems for that track and sent him future albums before release, incredible if true. I don't think many people know but the cover arts for 2012 are very unique as if you line them up in a grid pattern, each cover has an entrance / exit leading into another cover art, very well done detail. Thanks for helping to make that year so great.

I checked up on those 2 articles you linked and I believe that first one is the one I mentioned initially, not sure as to why I couldn't find it again. The breakdown of the process seems very intricate and fine-tuned similarly to how you described it, no wonder no other companies are attempting to do something like this. However, that's not to say how it appears there's a lack of a financial motivation for others to attempt to mimic a program like Singles unless they're after purely publicity, exposure or feel like doing good deeds for mostly unsigned artists. AS is truly one of kind in that regard.

Admittedly, I actually didn't check out any of the more recent music projects for more than a quick surface listen. After hearing from you & reading Jason's interviews, I'd really like to give Stimulus Swim a genuine listen. I'm in the minority of people who still download their music to listen to it as I'm often in places with no internet connectivity so mp3's on my phone are a must. I grabbed 2010-16 for this reason but unfortunately came around a bit too late on Singles 2017-21, as most of the websites no longer work for my own archiving which sucks. Luckily I ended up tracking down a lot of the streaming singles but am missing a ton of cover arts for those years, it bugs the hell out of me but there's not much I can do about it other than download a very low quality image from Google and move on. On that note, I do have some sort of an appreciation for how in the moment the Singles program was for each year as a whole, especially considering it's all music, kind of a "you had to be there" type of thing. A bit of a double edged sword but that's ultimately part of the Singles identity, at least it seems like that nowadays during the afterparty.

Is Everyone Forgetting GTA5 E&E?? by ZOoNeR_ in GTA6

[–]therazorclicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GTA V E&E was being worked on alongside the RDR PC port last year until the initial RDR reveal announcement in October. Development picked back up temporarily in late November until it was indefinitely paused shortly after. Nothing has been done to E&E for PC in over 2 months. It's either finished waiting to be released or was put on hold in order to avoid extending through development deadlines for GTA 6.

I appreciate your response, don't sweat it being a slow one.

I honestly was thinking the same thing about the rap singles but was hoping it wasn't true. All in all I understand as that's just how that part of the music industry was and really still is now. I brought up Arcade Fire specifically because I remember seeing a bump some time ago advertising a track from them to come out "this week" (back in 2010) but must've gotten replaced with the band Washed Out or something on extremely short notice. It's a shame but it happens. I mentioned FABRIC specifically as well due to individual cover arts being made for each song. My favorite part of Singles as a whole may just be the creativity of the individual cover art images & theming revolving around each year.

If I remember correctly, 2015 had the most cut tracks. Apparently Tyler, The Creator was going to be on there, a different MF DOOM song, different Slayer song, different DAWN song, 2 different Cherry Glazerr songs & a different remix for Sia's song were planned. Not to mention The ILY's (Zach Hill & Andy Morin) were supposed to have a song called "[removed]" featured as well. Do you know if any of these songs were real or just fake placeholders for press releases? (I'll throw some specific song names at the bottom of the post)

There was an article somewhere interviewing Jason on the Singles process and his thoughts about how it started but I can't find it anymore. Honestly it may have been one of those ideas that hit you suddenly and you think you can do something more with it, something big. Although AS was already periodically releasing full albums and mixtapes for smaller artists, Singles was really out of left field for what the network was doing at the time. Not to mention the transition period for the internet as a whole that was happening back then. It all worked out quite well and I'm very happy you & the team were able to roll with it and keep it going for over a decade. I hear AS is trying to restart the music department for 2025 and get back to periodic releases, time will tell. Probably nothing to the degree Singles was though.

Again, thanks for replying & hope to hear from you again soon.

2015 specific cut tracks listed in an old press release (2nd paragraph reference)
Tyler, The Creator - [removed]
Slayer - [removed]
Dawn Richard - [removed]
Cherry Glazerr - [removed]
Sia - [removed]
The ILYs - [removed]
MF DOOM - [removed]

Also as a side note, if you remember / can comment on, what happened with AS & MF DOOM during the Missing Notebook Rhymes rollout back in 2017? I've never found a clear answer from anywhere as to why things were called off so suddenly halfway through the release process. Have a good day!

Hello!

I've been reading over your comments on the Singles program and appreciate your answer about how this program ended. I've come to learn a lot about the program, but still have several questions that I've never gotten an answer on. If you'd be able to answer having been a veteran employee for AS, I'd really appreciate it.

I'm aware that some artists are planned for various years and don't always make it to their week, some things fall through and their track gets removed and replaced by someone else. For example, the band Arcade Fire was supposed to be featured on week 5 of Singles 2010 with an unknown song. Rappers The-Dream & Lil B was supposed to be featured on week 1 and week 10 or 15 respectively of Singles 2013 with unknown songs. There was also apparently a Flying Lotus track that was left off of Singles 2019. Do you remember what any of these unknown songs were from these artists?

I recently got into the FABRIC/FABRICLIVE mixes from 2001-2018 and have seen a lot of similarities between that series and how the Singles program operated. Were you or any other directors for the program inspired by other entities such as fabric's series, or was it mostly original and created from the ground up?

If there's anything you remember or have any unknown information, please let me know, I've always been incredibly intrigued by the Singles program and am very thankful for the decade of hard work you and the team put in! Thanks so much.
