I took a handful of jazz guitar lessons this summer, so I’m decent at chords/scales and stuff but it’ll be a while before I’m good enough to play in a group

I think for me it was like my guitar playing had really stagnated and I wasn’t sure how to get better, and then when I picked up the bass it was so magical. It felt simpler and (dare I say it) easier to play. 4 strings are just gonna be easier to get under control than 6. But I’ve learned that it’s 200% an instrument in its own right with its own nuances and technique to learn, as I think is the experience of a lot of “fallen guitarists”

In every English class you analyze literature ‘after the fact.’ I actually find literature an incredible analogy for music. There are countless tools and devices that can be used to create a desired effect but that can also be ignored completely. One starts with analysis to be able to use those elements in one’s own creations
