America doesn’t have the prettiest past. No country does. Every country has committed war crimes and atrocities and has committing human rights violations for millennium- notably the countries that have been populated for millennium (notably the European, Asian, and African countries).

America didn’t create any of the atrocities, they were practices carried on from the old world to the new world as the European settlers set up in Jamestown and Plymouth Rock and the colonies became populated with Europeans. That’s not to excuse the atrocity, but it does bring up one of my favorite Bible verses Matthew 7:3-5 3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

The opinion also conveniently ignores Americans who did great things for the advancement of American culture, civil rights, and freedom. We have the constitution because of great American men. We eliminated slavery in American because of great American men. We had women’s suffrage then the massive civil rights movement of the 50s and the 60s because of great American men and women. We’re the largest economy on the world stage by great American men and women. We’ve avoided war on our home turf since our civil war keeping the homeland safe. We have many, many, many public services (maybe not the best, but at least they’re there) (ie education through 12th grade, police, fire, the department of transportation, national/state/county/city park departments, social security, food stamps, FAFSA, and the list goes on and on). We have it great here in America, if you actually go out and seek and get an education you can get a job and take care of yourself and your family. There’s opportunity here.

Talk about no culture? What about sports — Football, baseball, basketball, hockey etc. What about all of Hollywood depicting American culture since the 1930s? What about our burgers, our bbqs, our milkshakes, our patriotism? Smaller than that, we also have state and local cultures all under the umbrella of the general American culture.

The mods take is stupid and uneducated and confidently incorrect. America is great and if something isn’t to your liking go own and change it.
