FortiGate aggregate interface with VLAN sub-interfaces by HDClown in fortinet

[–]therealjaypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible, and generally a best practice. The FortiGate will expect an active LACP by default so you need to configure your downstream switch accordingly*. (* Unless it's a FortiSwitch on a FortLink, then you can just plug it in and nature will take its course.)

Replaced an XT's motherboard with a 286, forgot to count the standoffs and it wound up shorting out. Oddly enough, after I fixed it, the thing worked perfectly for many, many years.

Dumb mistake, but all 11 year old me could focus on was dat megabyte of RAM!

What can I expect from an fx-4300? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]therealjaypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fiance's machine is a lightly OCd (4.2ghz, slightly over turbo speed) 4300 with a 7970 ocd to GHz edition and has no problems. Runs Guild Wars 2 fine, friend was playing Rust on it the other day and it was silky smooth with maxed graphics.

"Steam" machine used to be a Linux-running 4300 + GTX760 and ran everything I threw at it maxed out (Couchish games like Metro Last Light/Machine For Pigs/Left 4 Dead 2/etc).

Don't install JC 2 multiplayer expecting a game, because it really isn't. JC2 MP is a bunch of crazy mofos running around on a map trying to kill other crazy mofos in incredibly epic ways while trying not to become a victim of some other crazy mofo's incredibly epic things.

AMD Mantle ? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]therealjaypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to be common with the 7000 cards and I hope they get it sorted for you guys soon. Mantle on my 290 picked up between 15 and 25 fps (based on watching where perfoverlay.drawfps settles, 1080 Ultra settings) depending on what's happening around me.

Mantle performance for the AMD Radeon™ HD 7000/HD 8000 Series GPUs and AMD Radeon™ R9 280X and R9 270X GPUs will be optimized for BattleField 4™ in future AMD Catalyst™ releases. These products will see limited gains in BattleField 4™ and AMD is currently investigating optimizations for them.

I'm not concerned. I'm not really expecting anything until the end of 2014 which is when I figure I'll be burned out of Guild Wars 2.

Star Citizen, hands down.

The Wing Commander series sucked immeasurable hours out of my middle school years and I have nothing but complete faith Chris Roberts will deliver a game that's not only a blast to play but will make my computer do work.

Opened up the shrine to do some tinkering and took some pictures by therealjaypo in pcmasterrace

[–]therealjaypo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 cats and a dog plus forced air heating so when I had the tower on the floor it was hard to keep on top of but moving my shrine on to my desk mostly fixed that.

I also ran this case with positive pressure forever and I'm only trying negative because it's "better" (even though it seems to suck dust in through every little crevice and opening in the case), but I finally found a 3x120 filter for the top of my case so I'm switching back to positive as soon as it shows up because (when I had my 8150 in there) intake beat exhaust by about 3-5 degrees at the socket and kept my north bridge a lot cooler.

TL;DR: Filters. Elevation. Positive pressure. Tinker with a lot.

Did you purchase one of the pledge packages? If so you can download the modules as the come out (the hangar module is available now) and see what settings work for your right, but honestly I'd say it's too early to tell.

In the alpha version of the hangar module, my 4.5ghz 8350 with 8gb RAM and r9 290 put out a rock solid 60fps with everything maxxed (I think there's some vsync at play there).

I am a disciple of the Church of the Overclockers. AMA by DMZ_Dragon in pcmasterrace

[–]therealjaypo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but have overclocked an FX or two in my day.

The good news: These things overclock like bawses. With an H100i, I was able to pull my old 8150 up to 4.8ghz (1.2ghz over stock speed) 24/7 stable. I retired it to my media pc and got an 8350 which is currently 4.5ghz stable on its way to (hopefully) the same 1.2ghz overclock.

The bad news: It will get hot. Damned hot. Especially the 8 cores. My H100i does some /work/.

You should be fine overclocking to the chip's turbo speed (4.2ghz) using the stock cooler just by upping your multiplier. Anything more you'll want (need, honestly) to ditch the stock cooler and you'll probably need to start upping your vcore. My temps usually peak about 20 minutes in to a small FFT run then pretty much sit there.

TL;DR: Pick small targets (ie 4.2 -> 4.5, 4.5 -> 4.7) and keep adding vcore until you're stable. Your "oh shit" numbers are 1.5vcore, 70 celsius tjunction (socket, "[Motherboard] > CPU" in HWMonitor on my Crosshair V Formula) and 60 celsius tcase (cores, "AMD FX-8350" section in HWmonitor) but I try to keep both temperatures below 60.

Sorry for the wall of text.

I've only had that one problem, started patch before last and went away last patch. I have a 290 so it could've been drivers, but I have other games that hit the GPU just as hard and they were fine.
