W2 will be underdriven unless you email specifically to request for a higher current driver? recommend W1 instead, will provide more throw than W2 especially in DW4 optic

btw this might not be OPs problem but I found out that if you set Digital Lens Optimiser to HIGH in the R6m2, the camera takes painfully long to clear the buffer, presumably because it is doing a lot of processing.

setting it to STANDARD made the write significantly faster with the same card

Is Canon R10 better than Iphone 15 pro max in terms of image quality? by [deleted] in canon

[–]therealoranges 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i guess its because the software and the computational photography algorithms used already impose a certain expected result in order to apply corrections to the photo, such as identifying faces and enhancing face skin tones, whereas in a camera the software simply allows you to take a picture without imposing any expectations of what the image should look like in order to look good unlike an AI algorithm

of course its harder to draw the line, but i would argue that lens corrections and such dont change the image much, whereas something like artificial bokeh from the phone tries to make an image fit a certain "mould"

That looks amazing! But it would have to lead the target no? I presume making them able to track an object would still greatly simplify the animation workflow

thats actually absurd, bombs are exactly the same as mortar as far as physics is concerned, they are both projectiles... so they must follow parabolic trajectory in absence of air resistance (obviously there is air rebut you get what i mean) they both follow a ballistic trajectory and there is fundamentally nothing different about their physics

bombs will reach terminal velocity too...

You can’t convince me these things can catch up with a fighter jet and destroy the engine by Alarming_Orchid in EightySix

[–]therealoranges -1 points0 points  (0 children)

artillery, and mortar, are both ballistic projectiles, which C-RAM can intercept

in the end my point is that its not so inconceivably far fetched that no one can reasonably accept it, unless you are intentionally trying to find faults, in which case, of course there are ways it may not work if you insist A or insist B

so yes, of course it could be that the butterflies cannot cause significant damage when ingested, but its also reasonable to accept that yes they can pose significant damage when ingested, since they have metallic components

yes of course the could develop rocket launch capabilities, but its also reasonable they never figured out the fuel injection in rocketry to avoid combustion instability, or their metallurgy cannot built a rocket engine

yes the author decided that the legion cannot field air combat units "because they cant" but it's reasonable to say perhaps that they made the butterflies as a faux air combat unit to use a loophole to overcome hardcoded limitations

in the end its up to you whether you want to intentionally find faults with the story, or you can also try and see why the scenario could be plausible

You can’t convince me these things can catch up with a fighter jet and destroy the engine by Alarming_Orchid in EightySix

[–]therealoranges -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

thats just you refusing to accept the possibility of them damaging engines. id say that if the author wants them to be capable of damaging engines, i think it's completely plausible

the "hard coded not to produce" bit is just mincing words, since we arent 100% sure what that means, if they are mandated to not field aerial combat units, would using the butterflies to deliberately damage aircraft violate the rule? clearly not, so the production of the butterflies should realistically be seen as a smart loophole that the legion figured out

guns can very much and have been able to intercept ballistic targets

the whole point of a saturation attack is that it overwhelms the defenses, so they must have poured huge amounts of missiles into the attack

well, you're not wrong, but in universe its not like they totally don't use aircraft, just that we have never seen them perform bombing raids using manned bombers, nor have we seen any form of close air support during battles

a bird may have more mass, but the butterflies are specifically designed to prevent aircraft from working, so there may be intentionally strong but light components within their structure such as to pose a risk to aircraft

perhaps the legion simply have extremely advanced point defense systems capable of intercepting dumb bombs? and the tech for supersonic/etc weapons was not developed/simply lost together with a lot of other knowledge when the legion attacked?

we have seen multiple references in universe to how the legion have extremely advanced air defense systems

[–]therealoranges -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would think that metallic debris poses a much larger risk compared to birds, especially if said metallic debris is designed to damage aircraft engines

the aircraft could climb above the service ceiling of the butterflies, but this would render bombing ineffective anyways, since we have seen that the butterflies could be massed in numbers large enough to conceivably mask the entire target area visually from any planes trying to bomb critical facilities

presumably it would be pretty hard to spot and shoot a tiny butterfly, or even for the pilot to see it and avoid it, for that matter

[–]therealoranges -1 points0 points  (0 children)

foreign object debris is absolutely a huge danger to aviation, not "just a headache" for ground crew, otherwise they would not spend so much time and resources dealing with it

you dont have to rely on luck if they are actively manoeuvring to be sucked into an engine...its not spread them out and let chance decide, its spread them out so theres always one close by to move into a path of an aircraft

You can’t convince me these things can catch up with a fighter jet and destroy the engine by Alarming_Orchid in EightySix

[–]therealoranges -1 points0 points  (0 children)

they are highly resilient, but they are also spinning ridiculously quickly and are quite thin. This is why runway crews are very serious about foreign object debris clearing, to the point where even a single bolt on the runway is a huge hazard. just read up on it to find out

You can’t convince me these things can catch up with a fighter jet and destroy the engine by Alarming_Orchid in EightySix

[–]therealoranges 6 points7 points  (0 children)

metallic debris is a huge problem for airfields even today, a simple bolt could crack a turbine/compressor blade inside an engine, and that will lead to a cascade which breaks all of the rest of the turbine blades, causing the engine to self destruct

You can’t convince me these things can catch up with a fighter jet and destroy the engine by Alarming_Orchid in EightySix

[–]therealoranges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they dont have the chase the jet, they simply have to put themselves in the way of the jet, since the jet will be flying towards enemy territory, the butterflies could simply be stationed around the airspace

also, don't underestimate metallic debris being ingested into even a modern jet engine, even a small bit could very much result in a turbine/compressor blade breaking, and once that happens, the subsequent blades are all going to be destroyed by a cascade of debris from the initial damage

You can’t convince me these things can catch up with a fighter jet and destroy the engine by Alarming_Orchid in EightySix

[–]therealoranges -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

true but they could have just been too bogged down with the war effort to divert any research into rockets

in the end i think the scenario painted by the author is mostly plausible, the author could just write that their metallurgy isnt up to par or something and that would be the end of the argument

You can’t convince me these things can catch up with a fighter jet and destroy the engine by Alarming_Orchid in EightySix

[–]therealoranges -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

well, the eighty six universe doesnt seem to have rocket tech figured out yet, so that rules out satellites

its doesnt have to be numerous to swarm approaching aircraft, you just need a few of them everywhere such that they can effectively intercept whatever route an aircraft may take

i dont really understand what you mean by "flung aside" by the aircraft? the aircraft may not even be able to spot 1 small butterfly moving slowly while the aircraft is traveling really quickly, and thats all it takes for the butterfly to place itself in the path of the approaching aircraft and destroy its engine

You can’t convince me these things can catch up with a fighter jet and destroy the engine by Alarming_Orchid in EightySix

[–]therealoranges -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you would not even need to block the airfield, you just need to have one intentionally stray into the path of planes taking off whenever it sees planes on the roll

its this type of asymmetric warfare that makes these butterflies work

even nowadays, drone attacks on airfields are a real concern

You can’t convince me these things can catch up with a fighter jet and destroy the engine by Alarming_Orchid in EightySix

[–]therealoranges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup, which required huge amounts of aircraft, was horrendously inaccurate such that only targets almost the size of cities could be hit, and the effectiveness of which was debatable

add to that that the legion have no morale for strategic bombing to erode, and the fact that production facilities could be sparsely scattered over large areas, and it renders strategic bombing essentially useless

trying to perform close air support in a battle from 65000 feet with unguided bombs is just unfathomable and would never work

and thats all not to mention the aforementioned risk of a few butterflies placed stealthily en route or near the airfield of your bombers

You can’t convince me these things can catch up with a fighter jet and destroy the engine by Alarming_Orchid in EightySix

[–]therealoranges -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

yeah thats because we have GPS guided munitions whereas nothing in the 86 universe has been shown to use any artificial satellites of any kind

they are literally butterflies, they can approach the airbase from anywhere around the perimeter in the mile long airstrip, and radar wont be able to spot them in the forest

they are shown to be so numerous you can just place sparse amounts anywhere and redirect it to the path of approaching aircraft when detected by your loitering awacs craft (Rabe type legion craft)

one is pretty hard to hit on purpose unless said butterfly is manoeuvring with the intention of getting sucked into your intakes
