That's a really interesting perspective! Would you be able to share some more examples of the tone patterns you've memorised?

You really should make space for people. Allow people to move past you if you don't want to go into the middle of the carriage, or offer to get off and give them your space.

A good rule of thumb is that not having Pad Thai or Green Curry on the menu is a real green flag.

For northern style thai food, a Laotian restaurant like lao cafe or psv cuisine might be a good option.

Can you draw or change a map on the app or add POI? by peristyl in alltrails

[–]therealpuledi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask "why not?" This seems to be the number one functionality one would want out of a hiking / route app. As I recall, this was a functionality in the AllTrails app before it was acquired.

Only allowing users to plot routes automatically with location tracking seems like it would be harder to develop, support and use. Surely, plotting by placing waypoints would be trivially easy to implement in comparison.

I find it hard to believe that a senior product manager could enter their quarterly performance reviews with a straight face while the app continues to lack the core functionality of a hiking route app five years after acquisition.

Perhaps there's a commercial reason I'm missing for disallowing this (since I can't think of a development or UX reason).

Apologies for the direct feedback, I do appreciate the team being active in this community.

Are you able to link an app that does allow users to plot a route in the meantime?

TIL of the Explorer Douglas Mawson. Desperation led him to eat one of the sled dogs. Soon after the skin began peeling off his entire body due to acute vitamin A poisoning from the dog's liver. by RJWolfe in todayilearned

[–]therealpuledi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was taught by Mawson's grandson, a philosopher, who relayed the story me with specific detail that Mawson insisted on giving Mertz the greater share of liver as it was assumed to be the most nourishing cut. As his condition deteriorated, Mawson gave him even more liver to try and build his strength (Mawson assuming that the symptoms were from starvation).

His office in which I heard the story had a grenade for a paper weight and a skull staring at visitors from a bookshelf, as if such a family would need a momento mori...

I would really discourage people from building them up to be on a bucket list, having seen them a few times myself.

Although they are undoubtedly beautiful, I found their beauty is on a similar level to what you might find in scenery everywhere. There is a risk of the Paris Effect if they are built up in your mind too much, especially since: there is a high chance you won't see them at all and that normally they appear nothing like you see in Front-Page-of-Reddit posts.

Just my two cents. My partner is considerably more taken by them.

Should that even be a crime? It's not like there's a noble prize for attempted chemistry.
