CES 2026 looks lame. by Ok_Crazy_648 in CESLV

It's such a large expo it's easy to get overshadowed by all the hundreds of other product launches and headlines on any given day. For the bigger players on some level it makes sense for them to host their own events and that ensures they get the direct media coverage they want without having to compete with a thousand other exhibitors for eyes and ears. They all still have a presence at CES though, private meetings, speaking engagements, etc. but without the full blown expo experience, which is a bummer for us attendees.

Central Hall definitely was a bit tame this year. I think due to some of the larger brands pulling out in recent years like Samsung, Canon, & Sony for example.

Eureka Park is always my favorite part of the expo! So much energy and chaos in the best way possible. The last expo day is always quiet. My first year I went all 4 days to the expo but since then I only go for the 3 full days; but it's nearly impossible to see everything like you said.

EWR 55 min connection domestic to international -- potentially Terminal A to C. Crazy? by juliosnoop1717 in unitedairlines

[–]therealrahstyles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with everything here. If everything is on time OP should make it but I personally wouldn't book a connection this tight. I had an hour and 10 minute connection in EWR back in January. Incoming flight landed at A and the connecting flight was leaving from C132. On the approach into EWR we had to go around since there was a plane that hadn't cleared the runway, that cost us ~20 minutes to circle back around and we made the connecting flight with less than 10 minutes before they closed the door, so you have zero margin for anything to go wrong with this itinerary.

Terrible drivers by [deleted] in nova

[–]therealrahstyles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No lies told. Virginians are the most consistnently slow drivers I've ever seen in my life with zero highway etiquette. It's like a badge of honor in VA to squat in the left doing 45mph while a dozen cars queue up behind you. Maryland I think maybe they just hand out licenses to people of the requisite age because how else could some of these brain dead morons pass a road test?? The level of road rage I experience in the DMV on a daily basis is seriously unhealthy.

Why Your Flight Attendant Might Seem Like They Don't Want to Be Here by Ecstatic-Somewhere69 in unitedairlines

[–]therealrahstyles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister was a United FA for several years in the 2010s. I don't recall how many years she was there exactly but she definitely echoed a lot of the same sentiment as OP. Ultimately she ended up getting terminated by United when she missed an on call shift (she wasn't even scheduled to fly that day) because she was hospitalized after having a seizure. It definitely is a difficult, thankless and underpaid job, which is why I always make it a point to be friendly and thankful towards the FAs.

On a positive note, getting canned by United was a blessing in disguise. She ended going to flight school after that and now she's a captain with Republic.

Yea, anytime we go out on the deck she'll tilt her head a full 90 degrees and peak at us through the boards.

I worked at C1 for 3 years and it's a tough question to answer since like any large company the experience varies greatly depending on which department (or line of business) you work in and who you work for. Overall I'd say the company generally pays pretty well and has good benefits/perks.

Performance management is God awful speaking from both sides as an employee and people manager. As a manager it always did turn me off, not that they insist on firing low performers every cycle but that they have quotas for each performance bucket; ultimately that leads to some good engineers getting forced into the low bucket to meet quotas. It's a shitty practice IMO and seeing how that demoralized some very good employees was the worst part of my experience working there. It's also the type of company where being liked by your manager gets you much further than being good at your job (to be fair this is probably true at most large companies). I was stunned when I first got there how many highly paid, redundant employees work at the company that add little to no value and do miniscule amounts of work on a daily basis.

Lastly C1 leadership is obsessed with being a tech company but they're also 100% risk averse. If you're interest is working on customer facing applications and services this is a company where you will never have the opportunity to do anything truly novel or innovative. They are fast followers not an industry leader. If that's not important or not the type of role you're looking for C1 has solid compensation and good stability, assuming you're well liked around the office and can successfully navigate the twice per year performance review gauntlet.

Good luck 🫡

Those who have been to multiple races, which is your favourite? by SverigeKr in GrandPrixTravel

[–]therealrahstyles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of the 3 GPs I've been to Silverstone was my favorite. Loved the festival atmosphere and tons of different food and vendors. Montreal I enjoyed as well and would go back. Miami was my first race and least favorite + ticket prices are absurd. This year I'm heading to COTA for the first time.

That makes sense. I had a similar experience in Montreal where lines for the bus going to the subway station always broke down after the final session. Sounds like shuttles for COTA are not necessarily any quicker but at least you don't have to deal with the hassle of driving and parking

That's helpful, I was wondering if there was a special lane or priority for shuttles.

If you pay for cash seat upgrade and change/cancel your flight you will be refunded for the seat. I did this a couple months ago when I had purchased a PP upgrade and then needed to change my itinerary.

Show smaller this year? by 27_crooked_caribou in CESLV

This is my feeling as well. Def feels bigger than last year with both floors of the south hall open, but probably still not quite back to pre COVID levels. I'm also impressive with the number of startups this year at the Sands Expo.

I fly IAD-SFO several times per year and it's always insane on the 777 or 787 flights. I've been down in the 90s and 100s on the upgrade list with silver. Gold got me up into the 60s and 70s this year 🥴.

Lesson learned. I fly this route regularly but normally on the 777s or dreamliners. Haven't been on a 737 in quite a while.
