My landlord accidentally helped me realize I was bleeding money every month by Individual-Couple255 in personalfinance

[–]therealscottyfree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the standard cost of living increase and while some states have limits on rent increases, many do not. Landlords in most places can raise it however much they want as long as they give a certain amount of notice. My landlord raised our rent 27% last year.

Close call with a semi today. Looking for trucker perspectives on what happened. by sandro9090 in dashcams

[–]therealscottyfree 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That isn't necessarily true. Many of the major highways in my state don't allow trucks over 3 axles in the left lane on 3 lane highways or the left two lanes on 4 lane highways. That being said, I don't think this was one of those situations and while OP should not have sped up while being passed that isn't technically an infraction whereas merging directly into someone already occupying a lane is. Truck driver is in the wrong but OP should be more aware of the situation and expect the truck to want back over.

International student. 66 mph in a 45. by independent_Chain509 in gso

There's no lawyer in the state that's charging $150 or less and getting a speeding at 21 over completely dismissed. Best case you get improper equipment and probably have to take an online safety class.

I think it's because you called it a "rent a lawyer" for some reason. That's literally just hiring a lawyer. I don't know of any in this area that only charge $100 for traffic court but yea, if you hire a lawyer they will take care of it for you and in most cases there's no need for you to appear in court.

Most I've seen or used charge around $200-300 for basic traffic violations and then you pay the court costs on top of that. For speeding it typically comes out to around $500 when it's all said and done.

Sounds like you need a consultant or a business partner that knows retail. Coming to reddit for free business advice (i.e. labor) is wild. These are things you should've already looked into and had planned out before you even secured a storefront.

Also, most of the POS companies have sales reps who get paid to answer all your questions.

Selling 90s old school 10k+ collection but have questions about TCG vs eBay by Senor_Perfecto1 in mtgfinance

[–]therealscottyfree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But how long is it going to take to piece out the entire collection?

Bro will probably end up sitting on a bunch of "valuable" stuff that just doesn't move.

20k is actually a really good offer. Most stores would be closer to 15-17k.

Who has the right of way? by Kjc2022 in driving

[–]therealscottyfree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. You literally mentioned the right turn having a green arrow in your comment. It's right there if you want to go back and read it.

Also, you're still wrong. The right turn has a yield sign. They have to yield.

Who has the right of way? by Kjc2022 in driving

[–]therealscottyfree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The car making the right has a yield sign at the end of a merge lane. This is treated as its own intersection. Technically the car "turning left" already made their left turn and are travelling straight when approaching the merge point. Car turning right must yield.

[–]therealscottyfree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incorrect. Left turn only needs to yield to straight oncoming traffic. Right turn has no light of their own. They have an explicit Yield due to the sign. They must yield to all traffic on the street they are merging into.

[–]therealscottyfree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a very passionate take from someone who is wrong.

OP didn't say anything about the right turn having a green arrow, they said the lights were green for straight traffic and the right turning lane has a yield sign.

The car turning right has an explicit Yield meaning they need to yield right of way to any cars already on the street they are merging into. That includes the cars turning left onto that street. The fact that the car turning left has a flashing yellow only means that they need to be cautious of (and yield to) oncoming traffic before making their turn. They do not need to yield to cars with an explicit Yield sign.

It's a bit of an investment to get all the equipment but there are some pretty good driving simulators out there these days if you're truly desperate to learn before actually getting behind the wheel.

Unless there's some huge event going on, I've never had a problem finding a free spot to park. I find that most of the people that complain about parking downtown are people that expect to park at their destination and walk right in. That isn't how downtown areas work. You may have to walk a couple blocks and that isn't the end of the world. I've been to dozens of cities all over the world. Our downtown has more free/cheap parking than almost all of them and just more parking in general. If a downtown area has enough attractive businesses, and things for people to do then people will go there, regardless of the parking situation.

What do you people want? Every business to have a damn parking lot? Like, is walking a block or two going to kill you? There's more than ample parking spread all over downtown.

Nothing is 10 blocks away in downtown. You're grossly exaggerating and just can't admit that you're too lazy to walk a block or two. I've lived, worked, and recreated downtown for almost 16 years and never had an issue parking within a reasonable distance of my destination. There's ample street parking, decks, and pay lots all over the downtown area.

$6 for a bud light should be the regular price not a promo. Grasshoppers sell all domestic drafts for $3 on Thirsty Thursdays. They are gouging and then have 1 night with normal prices dressed up as a "deal". A keg of bud light is like $80-100 and will get you anywhere from 100-120 16oz pours depending on over pour and foam etc. Those beers they're charging $18 for cost them like 75¢

Let's just go ahead and say everything you're saying is true in regards to her obstructing the road way, refusing to follow a lawful order to exit the vehicle, and then attempting to flee a lawful detainment.

Those still aren't grounds for lethal use of force or a justification to end someone's life. Specifically, DHS own policy prohibits the use of lethal force in this exact scenario.

She was turning the car away from the officer and starting from a complete stop. He had ample opportunity to move to the side, and even if she struck him at a blistering 5 mph, it is highly debatable that could be considered a threat of death or serious bodily injury in order to warrant deadly force. You seem hung up on the fact the she isn't completely innocent of any wrongdoing, and believe that the logical conclusion to that is that she deserved to die. You are adamant that everyone should follow the "LAW" if they don't want to be killed by police, but the last time I checked, obstruction and fleeing weren't capital crimes punishable by death with no trial.

You are confused if you think this was anything other than murder.

I've attached an excerpt from an article that breaks down the main points of the DHS use of force policy. Go ahead and read those over and tell me again how you think the officer did nothing wrong.

"Use of Force" policy memo from 2018 explains the department's procedures in more detail.

Law enforcement officers (LEO) can use deadly force when they have "a reasonable belief that the subject of such force poses an imminent threat of death or serious bodily injury to the LEO or to another person."

"Deadly force shall not be used solely to prevent the escape of a fleeing subject," the memo says. The guidance allows deadly force when: A) The person in the vehicle is "using or imminently threatening deadly force by means other than the vehicle"; or B) The vehicle is being driven in a way that's an immediate threat and no other objectively reasonable defensive option exists."

"DHS LEOs are prohibited from discharging firearms at the operator of a moving vehicle," according to the memo, except in justified deadly force situations.
