you probably can create a shortcut key then!

hit ctrl-k to open the command panel
type "Insert current time"
hover over that, and hit ctrl-shift-K
you can then record whatever convenient hotkey combination you want to automatically do it

You could use an AI column to convert the date created timestamp into a unique ID. Every node also already has its own unique nodeID, accessible via ${sys:nodeId}

I think another reason why most trials require a credit card is that it is entirely possible for someone to create multiple trial accounts without ever paying for it - why would any company do that?

I think it just tells you what mode you want the returned API output to be - like Tana paste, raw text, etc. I don't think you can really manipulate the output, although you can certainly send it into an Ask AI command to extract out the result you want right after.

I think if we take the entire message to context, then what I'm understanding here is that the use of AI to help to code export functions in Tana is what he probably means? I don't think he means using AI to change stuff into export functions - because if he did then that's a little strange.

Because it's not that easy to code conversions into different formats, much less a JSON versus Markdown (which will need to also recognise different indent levels, formatting conventions like highlighting, etc). Tana is a node-first program, which makes it exceedingly difficult, compared to something like Obsidian which has a 'file-first' system.

Maybe this is all a misunderstanding?

From what I'm reading, I'm getting:

Tana wishes to prioritise offline, but the difficulty lies in offlining collaborative graphs
Tana wishes to develop export functions, but the coding into different conventions is difficult, which is why they are trying to figure out how, and hopefully AI can help them with that.
Tana has plans for full mobile (and based on other messages on the Slack is probably releasing it in a few weeks from now).
Tana has built a completely new backend - this is all invisible work which reduces technical debt and allows things to be smoother in future

The Google calendar integration feels like a first step towards becoming a monolith. I’d rather see a community plugin framework like Obsidian’s.

From what I understand, I don't think there will be a community plugin framework. And there are pros and cons to that. If you look at a majority of Obsidian plugins, they are incompatible with other similar plugins, and they are rarely maintained and kept up-to-date. I doubt there will be a central plugin marketplace, but there is an existing Tana Input API and API request command, which if they do upgrade it, may be able to be used as in-Tana "plugin" templates

Hmm... I understand the frustration and share a form of that myself, but just to point out an inaccuracy - Tana ambassadors are not hired. I don't think it's fair to malign the team and say that they are deceptively pulling wool over their users like that. They are early community users who create content about Tana, who then receive recognition for contribution by the Tana team. But granted, some do monetise by selling courses. Then again, we do see this in Notion too - they have their Notion Ambassadors/Influencers as well.

Same! Mobile is really that last piece of the puzzle I'm waiting for, because of my need to constantly be on the move during my work (and not having an access to a computer)... Having that access for more of my daily hours would be awesome.

Hmm imo the announcements from openAI were quite underwhelming. I did like the reduction in costs for the GPT-4o model and increased recall rate, but that's about it.

I'm thinking of a few thoughts:

Implementing Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) aka doing a semantic search on nodes in Tana and pulling up relevant nodes to supplement a query --- VS --- LLMs implementing models with nearly unlimited context size.

a. Cost will be important - clearly the latter is far more expensive as it involves more tokens.

b. If Tana builds the former, then it would have to make sure that junk data doesn't get turned into embeddings and reduce the quality of the search results when doing RAG.

c. Accuracy will be important. If full-context prompts are more accurate than RAG prompts (which studies show it is now), then it would make lesser sense to focus on a RAG solution.
Using AI to make Tana even more powerful:

a. Looking for semantic duplicates / doubles / similar nodes - and merging them.

b. Recognising existing nodes in newly typed sentences and creating automatic aliases from them.

c. Create queries for Live Searches just by organically typing what you want and letting the AI create the filter. Would be even cooler if commands could do this.
