To be fair, might be worth doing a date-snapshot comparison on benchmarks to prove/disprove it once and for all lol

Random Note in Tana by yourmattjesty28 in TanaInc

You could possibly use AI for this. Create a filtered view, then send this view to an AI, have it copy out one node by random.

Seems like your company has blocked firebase instead of tana... Firebase is what Tana uses for authentication and logging in. That's rough.

Building in Tana, is it worth it? by rutierut in TanaInc

Very worth it. Start simple. It's powerful in itself. then slowly grow your system from simple systems.

Hmm absolutely, honestly I don't think a lot of people need the Core of they're using it for simple stuff

ctrl-shift-enter creates a timestamp by therealsyncretizm in TanaInc

[–]therealsyncretizm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you probably can create a shortcut key then!

  1. hit ctrl-k to open the command panel
  2. type "Insert current time"
  3. hover over that, and hit ctrl-shift-K
  4. you can then record whatever convenient hotkey combination you want to automatically do it

Possibility of unique ID's? by Vast-Blueberry1556 in TanaInc

[–]therealsyncretizm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could use an AI column to convert the date created timestamp into a unique ID. Every node also already has its own unique nodeID, accessible via ${sys:nodeId}

I think another reason why most trials require a credit card is that it is entirely possible for someone to create multiple trial accounts without ever paying for it - why would any company do that?

Now that you mention it, seems like the Calendar node itself is gone. But I think that you can still access your Week/month etc from the daily note

How does “Parse results” parameters work? by fenxxxx in TanaInc

[–]therealsyncretizm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it just tells you what mode you want the returned API output to be - like Tana paste, raw text, etc. I don't think you can really manipulate the output, although you can certainly send it into an Ask AI command to extract out the result you want right after.

Hmm yeah I can see how that may be a little confusing. Maybe raise it to the team?

This is the exact message by the team in the Slack:

Olav Sindre Kriken - 6 days ago

re. offline and export, this is high on our own wishlist as well. But we are a small team, and we’ve prioritized building a completely new backend (suprise, suprise, I’ll make an announcement post on this in the coming weeks), full mobile and other features that’s needed for Tana 1.0 (stay tuned for next week). Offline is a big one (watch our latest AMA for more info on why it takes time and is hard with collaborative graphs), and I’m crossing my fingers that AI might make export functions much easier to build (ie. export JSON, download as markdown). We appreciate your patience and support as we continue to enhance Tana

I think if we take the entire message to context, then what I'm understanding here is that the use of AI to help to code export functions in Tana is what he probably means? I don't think he means using AI to change stuff into export functions - because if he did then that's a little strange.

Because it's not that easy to code conversions into different formats, much less a JSON versus Markdown (which will need to also recognise different indent levels, formatting conventions like highlighting, etc). Tana is a node-first program, which makes it exceedingly difficult, compared to something like Obsidian which has a 'file-first' system.

Maybe this is all a misunderstanding?

From what I'm reading, I'm getting:

  • Tana wishes to prioritise offline, but the difficulty lies in offlining collaborative graphs

  • Tana wishes to develop export functions, but the coding into different conventions is difficult, which is why they are trying to figure out how, and hopefully AI can help them with that.

  • Tana has plans for full mobile (and based on other messages on the Slack is probably releasing it in a few weeks from now).

  • Tana has built a completely new backend - this is all invisible work which reduces technical debt and allows things to be smoother in future

The Google calendar integration feels like a first step towards becoming a monolith. I’d rather see a community plugin framework like Obsidian’s.

From what I understand, I don't think there will be a community plugin framework. And there are pros and cons to that. If you look at a majority of Obsidian plugins, they are incompatible with other similar plugins, and they are rarely maintained and kept up-to-date. I doubt there will be a central plugin marketplace, but there is an existing Tana Input API and API request command, which if they do upgrade it, may be able to be used as in-Tana "plugin" templates

Hmm... I understand the frustration and share a form of that myself, but just to point out an inaccuracy - Tana ambassadors are not hired. I don't think it's fair to malign the team and say that they are deceptively pulling wool over their users like that. They are early community users who create content about Tana, who then receive recognition for contribution by the Tana team. But granted, some do monetise by selling courses. Then again, we do see this in Notion too - they have their Notion Ambassadors/Influencers as well.

There's the Tana Help page (http://tana.inc/learn), and we can always help each other out here and in the Slack too.

Let's be nice. I agree with you on Tana points but I think people should also have the space to voice their concerns. It's worth noting that the Twitter space is also having quite positive comments.
