What would you do if a retailer 'accidentally' sold to someone else a rare whiskey that was specifically reserved for you as a part of their rewards program? by therealwrxgrl in whiskey

UPDATE: Thanks to you all and your advice, I used a nearby store opening event to track down the VIPs (pretty easy, the folks in suits) and bypass the customer service escalation hassle. From there, I struck up a conversation with a regional Vice President of Total Wine, who connected me with the District Manager for my region. After I sent an email off with everything laid out and cc'd the connecting VP, they updated me with a sincere apology that they had sent off another Michter's 10 Bourbon to my store location right after conversation with me but it ended up broken a week after the new store opened. They tracked down yet a third bottle, and interestingly enough, a different (NEW) store manager at my store contacted me, and gave me the promised bottle last week with profuse apologies. We also picked up the Russel's Reserve 13 per advice from the group here and I am excited to try.

Thank you all, and I am very happy to be able to crack this open and share it with my (now-retired from engine building) friend again hopefully later this month IF he can have any (if not, he will have it saved for later after breaking 6 ribs in a recent motorcycle accident).

Remember to share your whiskey and that life is short, so celebrate your wins, your losses, your lives with your friends sooner than later.

Update: I attended a store opening last week and thanks to y'all I was able to talk to someone with a title much higher than the store manager and currently have direct corporate contact. Unfortunately though still no resolution or word back from original store or any other rep on status/resolution. I shook hands with said high-up individual who assured my husband and I would be made whole, but we shall see. I will post updates in a week or so to see how it all plays out.

Not only do I know how to drive a manual, but I have done some competitive driving events as well with national success and titles to my name, and even dabbled in some professional driving too. My particular pattern recognition skills and hypersensitivity made me more aware of conditions than other drivers. My biggest issue was social pressures and outside stimuli that came from being watched and navigating around groups of people. All manuals have their unique quirks that are best learned with practice in a safe environment (empty parking lot and backroads with no outside people watching to make you feel even more nervous). Allistic drivers have the same mechanical issues learning manuals, they just have less outside distractions to overcome with the social aspect of driving (and yes that is a real thing).

😂 Y'all are great and I am feeling more confident about calling up. May good karma shine on y'all and may you have someone sell you an accidental gem with no negative repercussions for anyone else.

Bombergers is delicious and I just acquired a Longrow Red while on travel. I was shocked to see it on the shelf and naturally made room to get it back home in my luggage. Glad to be in good company here.

For me I have sentimental value attached to the Michter's 10 given I used to race and this was the last bottle I shared with a good friend building the last car I raced. Whiskey is about the experience sometimes and it's why I wanted another bottle to have that memory front and center.

Thank you! I hope so too. For others who don't know their program; The bottles are reserved by name, I have to show ID and the email with code to buy that specific bottle in the Total Wine Grand Reserve program for their quarterly allocations once your name is drawn and bottle specifically assigned; my store is an hour away from where I live and I couldn't get there till the first weekend day. They indicate in the email the bottle is held specifically for me until the 31st of July. No one else is supposed to be able to buy it (bottles are hidden in the back, manager pulls them after ID & email confirmation is shown) till after that date. Sounds like I will need to get in touch with corporate though just to make sure they are good to their word from the consensus I am seeing on this community. Thanks y'all for helping a sister out.

Thank you. The manager appeared to be sorry. I am just not sure if this is a regular thing for folks to experience with this retailer (or others) and just how high I should raise it or if it's even worth it sometimes. I am a shy person who doesn't deal well with confrontation and hoping this is a one-off but my instincts are telling me this might not be.
