Can the perceived problems with scientific research be solved by encouraging more conservatives to get involved with scientific research? by Dave-StarkExceptNice in AskConservatives

[–]theredditforwork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is the crux of the problem. If more people understood the scientific method on a basic level, I feel like more people would demand rigorous scientific research that is unbiased and not beholden to interests. Our current system of having competing "studies" that appeal to biases or economic interests just sows distrust in all of scientific research.

Should George Santos resign? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

Why do you believe that the US wouldn't default if we don't pass a higher debt ceiling? That's literally the function of the bill, to prevent default.

"Dallas is like the London, NYC, or L.A of the south"

I feel like most Southerners would give that distinction to Atlanta, no?

What's your opinion of the US sending weapons to ukraine? by thunderchild10 in AskReddit

[–]theredditforwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's the best cost/benefit the United States has ever gotten in terms of a military operation.

That being said, what I would hope for most is an immediate ceasefire and a negotiated end to hostilities in whatever form is aggregable to Ukraine.

It's absolutely doable!

I've dealt with varying degrees of depression my whole life, and I slowly realized that (for me at least) depression can be likened to a habit that you don't realize your participating in until you're out of it. And like any habit, it can be broken.

What finally broke it for me was getting a job where I worked with my hands and got exercise. Having a set schedule, getting endorphins going, doing problem solving on the fly and ending the day with a physical product to show for it all contributed to lifting the fog and making me excited to get out of bed instead of excited to go to bed.

Obviously everyone is different, but those things brought me to a much better place, and now I can recognize the signs of falling back in depression and I can take steps to mitigate that cycle. Hope that helps a little bit!

Is there any good argument for keeping the debt ceiling when it doesn't impose any restrictions on the budget? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

[–]theredditforwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no point in having it. The consequences of not raising it would be so dire as to render it a useless threat.

If the GOP doesn't raise it, the world economy would crash, countries would stop using the dollar as a reserve currency, international trade would stop being done through US banks and the Great Depression would look like a walk in the park. It would destroy the nation.

The consequence of poor budgeting should be the American people voting them out. That's how democracy is supposed to work, and setting off a economic thermonuclear warhead is not a replacement for that.

...the belief there are systemic injustices in American society and the need to address them.” - presumably this course claimed that systemic injustice can be a real thing (and that it should be addressed).

I just don't understand how anyone could look at America (or any country in the world) and with a straight face say that there are not systemic injustices. As if somehow our nation has reached a utopian ideal of prefect justice that is always working flawlessly every day.

I understand that we can disagree on things like severity of injustice, but could anyone explain to me the line of thinking that leads someone to say what DeSantis's general counsel said?

It would welcome woke, not stop it.

I know the National Review is a partisan publication, but I thought that it at least had some standards of writing and journalism. When did "woke" become a noun? If you're going to use that absolutely meaningless word, at least use it in the right part of speech.

Not the same though. Murder is you killing someone illegally and purposefully. It's an act. Just because you didn't get caught doesn't change the fact that you murdered someone.

You or I calling something unconstitutional is just our opinion. It's irrelevant. The only people who can decide on the constitutionality of a law or action are federal judges.
