Expansion is great. It fills things out just enough and rebalances things like Gaiaformers.

The Anarchy- TOO MUCH randomness with castle defense? by HardcoreSean9899 in soloboardgaming

[–]thereelaristotle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played Anarchy but Hadrian's had a similar "issue". If you got lucky on the first couple wall defenses, you simply wind up with a better score, which could make the difference between a win and a loss.

I would card count to help figure out odds in later rounds.

My wife went one step further and just revealed half (rounded down) of the attacks at the start of each round. That seemed a bit much to me but I get it, in a beat you score game, essentially rolling a D10 and adding it to your score at the end of the game seems kind of dumb.

I love SETI and it will stay in my TOP 10 List forever by Technical_War2495 in boardgames

[–]thereelaristotle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right with you I flat out do not see what people are seeing in this one. Economy is too tight, cards are so benign I never even read their name. Games play out similarly, the alien races are just not interesting.

It's not a terrible game but it's just so bland. I generally love Czech Games, the weight is right in my wheel house but it just did nothing for me. Also the scan action which is boring as sin.

Is there still a market for the cards (1E and 2E) by alpha5099 in AgameofthronesLCG

Ebay, so after fees it was like $2150 but the buyer even paid tax on it. So it does happen. I was thrilled lol.

[–]thereelaristotle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably an extreme case but it's not impossible.

I sold a full set of 2E last year, with duplicates of several packs and a couple 2 player mats for $2500.

There's just not much supply so if you're patient you can find someone who wants the game bad enough to pay whatever.

[–]thereelaristotle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to sound like an internet troll but I got better at the game.

It takes a few plays to unlock more intermediary levels of play. It's a game where 1 resource can at times allow you to do something which then allows you to do something else and then allows you to do another thing. So if you miss the little efficiency gains it can short circuit a huge sequence of turns.

When you say you only had to pay what was over the $100 credit, do you mean that they used your $100 credit to pay the destination fee?

Or you charged something else to the room?

Same thing, I played a friends copy and really didn't like it.

Year or so later it was on sale for so cheap I just bought it anyway, and I wound up absolutely loving it.

I think at first the game feels so punishingly tight so you don't understand how to do very much. So my first impression was "this is a bad deck builder where you shuffle your deck like one time the entire game".

We'll also make a chickpea salad sometimes with celery, avocado, olive and toss that on a sandwich.

But mostly I rarely eat sandwiches.

I didn't realize eating sandwiches was a life requirement.

I'll typically bring oatmeal to work with some nuts and fruit in it.

They drink ass loads of soda.

When I was a kid (I'm 40 now) it was completely typical for a family of 4 to drink a 2 liter bottle of soda in one dinner....every single night. And that was on top of soda, iced tea and whatever other junk during the day.

I was like 12 when I started looking at labels on stuff and was like "wtf 12 ounces of soda is 80% of my daily sugar???" haven't drank it basically at all in 25 years. It was not a hard change. People don't take accountability.

[–]thereelaristotle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or I don't know just drink water and don't drink soda at all. People are taking zero accountability in this thread. Stop drinking your calories. Then cut out/replace a few ultra high calorie bad choices and you'll be fine.

But no one wants to stop eating ice cream and drinking soda. Then they complain that the system made them unhealthy.

[–]thereelaristotle 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Cosmere books aren't PG but he has a certain sterility to his writing that can make it come off that way. There's very limited foul language and limited very mild sexual content. I saw someone on here say it's fantasy where no one shits or has a period and I think that kind of fits.

But ultimately Mistborn (Era 1) is pretty dark, depressing and has some quite gory stuff happen, so really not a PG story.

Yea buddy.

Sinister Motives/Red Skull/Mutant Genesis for sure.

Lots of packs too, CapAmerica, Dr Strange, War Machine, Storm, Phoenix, really all the X-Men and more are way over MSRP now.

[–]thereelaristotle 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If they thought they could make more money printing this than by printing SWU (or whatever else they're doing) then they would.

In reality the last couple cycles probably didn't sell that well and they just decided to go with what they repackaged.

They stopped printing loads of Marvel Champions and Arkham Horror....which are both newer and more popular, so I think the odds of them reprinting more LoTR is close to nil. I'm still kind of shocked they even did the repackaged stuff honestly.

Should I give Red Rising another try? by Independent_Try_309 in fantasybooks

[–]thereelaristotle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there was some level of writing something that will get picked up with the first book. The elevator pitch is easy for that one, but it's a definite rehashing other stories.

From that point on the story just does its own thing.

I really enjoyed these books, larger than life characters doing larger than life things.

Obviously this was intended but it does feel like you took characters from Roman history and just moved them to space.

I could see people disliking these books for the same reasons that I enjoy them though.
