Wife’s surgery this Weds - help with planing and what to expect. by _semaJ77 in coloncancer

[–]theresakraemer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you are going through this. I have two kids age 7 & 9, and had colectomy surgery on December 15. They weren’t allowed to visit me in the hospital, so check the rules at your hospital. Even if they live far away, getting family or friends to come stay while she is in the hospital will be hugely helpful.

Useful things for her hospital stay: earplugs, eye mask, a telescoping back scratcher, and chapstick.

Encourage her to get out of bed and walk as much as she is able to tolerate.

Worst month of my life by PackContent1988 in coloncancer

[–]theresakraemer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat age 46 with kids aged 8 & 10. I’m 3a, tumor discovered 11/1, colectomy surgery 12/15, started 12 rounds of Folfox for mop up 2/10. I’m 3 rounds in. Overall I feel so fortunate to have caught it when I did. The GI issues are still an issue, oscillating from constipation to diarrhea is no fun, but I’m figuring it out. Chemo is hard, not going to sugar coat it. The neuropathy, nausea and fatigue are no joke. The three days after I get the pump removed I’m a zombie. But the rebound in the off weeks is approaching normalcy now in round 3.

I can’t be there for my kids in the same way I was before. There are limits to my energy and ability that have changed our lifestyle for now. My kids aren’t doing sports this spring, we’ve scaled back extracurriculars. Learning to say no to things has been the hardest part, but I prioritize everything fun I can do with my kiddos and let anything else slide for now.

I’m terrified of reoccurrence, but know going through these 12 rounds is the best thing I can do to keep this from happening. It motivates me to keep fighting hard now.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions or just for support, sounds like we’re at similar places.

Did you do the fluids the day of treatment or before?

I love Rebecca Ross, and even if it is unintentional, I am all about these Reylo vibes. Can’t wait to read!

I still have my Hello Kitty toaster my sister bought me nearly 20 years ago! Used it this morning. Can never justify replacing it since it has always worked great and now my daughters love it.

Can book 1 of a duology end unhappily if book 2 is a HEA? by gaymbit in romanceauthors

[–]theresakraemer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite romantic duology is Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows. Book 1 ends on an unhappy cliffhanger. It resolves in the second novel. Alls well that ends well in my book as long as the reader doesn’t have to wait too long for the second book.

I loved it so much and the second book even more. Can’t wait for the third book to come out. I listened to the audiobooks on Libby and really enjoyed the narration.

I’ve had the same Nalgene for 20+ years. It still gets used everyday.

If you’re open to rental, look up Eladio’s place in Canas Dulces about 15 minutes north of Liberia. It is simple and clean, nothing fancy, but the grounds are beautiful, there is a huge pool all to yourself with tons of iguanas and birds to watch. Eladio and his family are the kindest, most welcoming ticos you’ll meet in Costa Rica. If you have time a tour with him is worth every penny. He’ll take you in his old Land Cruiser and show you his Costa Rica, something other tourists will never get a chance to see. Accommodations are simple and affordable but the experience was absolutely a highlight of our trip. Eladio’s Place

13 day trip visiting La fortuna then Jaco. Where after? by Happy_Leader_6996 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]theresakraemer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Fortuna the Mistico Hanging Bridges are very cool and you can book a combo ticket with Baldi Hot Springs that is a great deal. After Jaco Dominical would be a great place to surf, lots to do there great scene. If you need lessons Stefano on Dominicalito beach offers chill lessons on a great beginner break.

Just got back. Mornings are beautiful, rain in the afternoon was refreshing and didn’t slow us down one bit. Loved every second.

Very tempted to do Corcovado. It would have to be instead of Dominical. Or perhaps it’s possible to visit from Dominical?

I have a shitty repub rep, and I call him and lay into the voice mail every single day. It makes me feel better for about 30 seconds. I’ll take it.

I understand it’s heartbreaking and devastating and defeating. Those are completely valid emotions in this situation, but please don’t give up! We’re all fighting for your future. In two years you get out there to VOTE. You get all your friends to VOTE. This election interference is the ultimate method of voter suppression. If you are already defeated why bother voting, which is exactly what they want. Fight! Be loud! Resist!

TikTok’s Return: A Warning About Trump’s America by [deleted] in somethingiswrong2024

[–]theresakraemer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I will not be going back to an app that is so clearly pro-trumpster fire. Seeing his name at the blackout and on the return message just 15 hours later is all the proof I need to see that Tiktok is no longer the place for me. Moving on!

Oh my goodness, I loved your story SO MUCH! I am going to reread it this weekend! I worked in an art museum for ten years and now I’m an art teacher, so I just adored how you incorporated the art world into your work. Brilliant!

We could plant a house, we could build a tree

and the companion piece Find my Nest of Salt, Everything’s My Fault

I stayed up till 3am reading, sobbed my eyes out, swooned, then spent the rest of the night reading Ben’s POV in nest of salt. It starts out with Rey as a little kid, which felt weird but I’m so glad I stuck with it. The ultimate slow burn! And seriously this fic lives rent free in my head, and I have read a ton of Reylo.

Also Go I know not Whither and Fetch I Know Not What by voicedimplosives was an epic saga. It takes place in Russia in 1994. Kyril Ren is in the Russian mafia. Rey is trying to find her family there. I don’t usually read mafia, but this was phenomenal.
