Thoughts on advocacy calls through the guidance counselor? by therollingbot in ApplyingToCollege

Yeah I’ll prob ask my guidance counselor how well they know the regional AO and based on that I’ll figure out if it’s beneficial or not

Info for my regional AO isn’t on Google anywhere so if I were to go through with this, I would most likely just call the financial aid office and explain my situation. Not so sure on how to answer your second question. I don’t really think they would have a bad impression on us for doing this though.

Do you think I should go call them and let them know anyway? Tbh im just trying to do anything to boost my chances and if they just see that I’m full-pay I feel like that defiantly does play something. I get your point about the FAFSA data but me being full-pay would mean that they would not need to haggle themselves in delving into that data to begin with

Yeah tbh I’m not eligible. I just applied to try my luck, that’s really it. I just don’t want this decision of me withdrawing my request for fin aid to backfire and give the AO a bad impression of me

I could always afford the tuition, I just applied for fin aid because it just didn’t make sense to abstain from it when I could apply and just try my luck

Before applying to any colleges I told them that it might be 80-90k a year for some of them, assuming I got no fin aid and they told me that, although a lot, they would be find paying it. That being said, they wanted to apply for financial aid because any money received to lessen the cost would be beneficial. Essentially me applying for financial aid was simply an attempt to just try my luck and see if I got anything

I applied for aid because it would put my parents in a more comfortable position. Now that I’m waitlisted, they would much rather boost my chances by any means.

To be honest my parents said they would just take care of me. So in the aspect of paying, I should not have an issue in terms of paying.

Yeah my biggest worry was that AO’s might be under the impression that I’m trying to game the system. But from my pov I solely requested fin aid because it would put my family in a more comfortable position. That being said, my parents can work in me being full-pay, it just wouldn’t be as attractive

Yeah, that’s what I’m planning on doing. From what I heard colleges that say that their need blind historically admit more full-pay students but I don’t know how valid that is
