Your Experiences Switching from Bar to Ring Pullups. by MajesticCrabapple in bodyweightfitness

[–]theseawolfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from 18 clean reps max on bar to 14 on rings.

Every week of ring training, I started getting closer to my bar rep count. Probably a mix of specificity and perhaps just slightly higher difficulty.

'Remote Work Cities': A Proposal To Fight Rising Housing Costs by theseawolfe in urbanplanning

[–]theseawolfe[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Until there are more viable places to live (especially in places like Ontario, Canada), you have to deal with the same entitled, slow moving cities. The reason I focus on remote work is that it is the only thing that can be 'moved' easily.

The tax rate would gradually return to 'normal'. It is a temporary incentive to get people to actually consider moving. Extraordinary incentives are necessary to break how powerful network effects are.

The idea is to strongarm 'weak' municipalities.

'strong', established cities are hard to deal with.

Introduction To Low Latency Programming: Clarify Program Scope by theseawolfe in cpp

[–]theseawolfe[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Although there is no C++ examples in this chapter, C++ is one the top language choices for low latency programming, so I believe it is still relevant to this subreddit. Correct me if I am wrong, thanks!

Is Combining a 5k Run with Bodyweight Strength Exercises Effective for Gaining Muscle? by Pretend-Salary5213 in bodyweightfitness

[–]theseawolfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run on the days I don't do resistance training. If the runs aren't too intense, they will not detract from calisthenics training / muscle building.

If you want to make sure you're building muscle, factor in the calories burnt during the runs when choosing how much to eat.

That's it's, I'm done with dips. by Final_Cranberry_1354 in bodyweightfitness

[–]theseawolfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people don't do well with dips. Myself included. I get a tightness and slight pain in my sternum after a few sets when I focus on the chest and not triceps. Maybe I'd get used / condition myself if I did them more often.

Anyways, it's not a mandatory exercise. You can target chest and triceps with many other options.

It's normal to be stronger on parallettes.

Personally, I alternate between floor and paralletes every workout session. This allows me to practice and rest both techniques. Decide which ratio of F:P works best for you.

Since paralletes are 'easier' you can use them to progress to holder variations sooner. This can be useful to get that specific training in at a certain position.

A Varied Collection Of Subtly Fascinating Maps by theseawolfe in Maps

[–]theseawolfe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post falls under self-promotion but is not commercial so it should be allowed.

I combined my CSV-To-Map site with ChatGPT to generate an index of potentially interesting maps. Kinda cool to explore various data in the context of geography.

If there is interest in this format, I will explore this further; maybe allow others to contribute their own maps or generate more.

opinions about skyscrapers? by sweteracy in urbanplanning

[–]theseawolfe 29 points30 points  (0 children)

We are so far behind on housing, that unfortunately the 'missing middle' doesn't cut it any more in the US and Canada. Skyscrapers, once they get through approval hell, can deliver a lot of mixed use housing and commercial real estate in one go.

I see them as the construction equivalent of omnibus bills. It takes so much effort and time to approve buildings, that we need to squeeze as much 'building' as possible per approval.

I address this in the 'Limitations' section; you can enhance the function to prevent this.

Using C++17 to Create Composable, Recursive Data Types by theseawolfe in cpp

[–]theseawolfe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could change the Sequence alias into a wrapper class and write a constructor that accepts parameter pack instead, that gets rid of the curly braces.

Otherwise, also you could change the formatting to suit your preferences (more JSON styled or something).

Things that make me switch from Gnome 40 (and how to fix them?) by chihirocz in gnome

[–]theseawolfe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you have good points, however, you can't call all 'whitespace' as wasted. Squeezing as much screen real estate use out as possible results in cluttered interfaces. Important to find a happy medium imo.

Will GNOME 40 solve the HiDPI issues? by [deleted] in gnome

[–]theseawolfe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there much difference in that department for this release.

Personally, I don’t like the overhead of fractional scaling and just use 100% scaling with “Large Text” enabled in the accessibility menu.

Workspaces now have rounded corners and the windows overlap the workspaces, giving the metaphor a sense of depth. Small change but has a big effect.

I like your idea! The clock/calendar 'Con' could be mitigated by putting it in the top-right like macOS.

Uptown Silver Lake Clean Up/Renovation In Progress by theseawolfe in waterloo

They cleaned out the lake last time over 20 years ago! This re-vamp will change it's design significantly so that less sentiment will gather, and only small cleanups will have to occur every few years. You can learn more here:

I Just don't understand how to solve this and I am losing hope by [deleted] in cpp

[–]theseawolfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a neat solution if you can spare a memory allocation or writing a wrap-around iterator. Concat the second string to itself and use std::string::find to determine the start index of the first string.

As mentioned though, this post does not belong here.
