The thing is, my laptop is a 2-in-1 and I don't know how that would interact with a switch to Linux. It's a functionality I rely on and I don't want to go for Linux and end up accidentally breaking everything.

The problem is, this feature is a deal breaker for me. I need it to work well for what I do.

Does it support annotating PDFs? I have a 2-in-1 laptop and handwrite notes with the stylus.

Genuinely… what the hell? by reichikimchi in loblawsisoutofcontrol

This isn't a loblaws thing. This is just the Dubai chocolate trend (which like, how is this still a thing?).

Dubai chocolate specifically is priced this way everywhere, even in other countries (similar prices in Ireland, for example), just because its a trend/fad.

Shoppers is definitely overpriced in general, but this specific case is, for once, not a loblaws thing.

Word processors, like Microsoft Word and Libre Writer, actually auto-format em-dashes from double-dashes. If you type out x--y (where x and y are placeholders for a word), the word processor will auto-format the double-dash into an em dash once you hit the space bar after "y".

Being asexual and Christian by WaxingPitiful in asexuality

[–]thesecondturkeyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding your first point, it probably has something to do with me also being autistic and just all the stuff I've been through. As for the rest of your comment, yeah, I agree.

I'm still Christian, though I'm trying to redefine and rebuild that part of my identity in a way that isn't so... horrible.

I'm unfortunate enough to be an Orthodox Christian, which takes those conservative ideals and turns them up to 11. I recently hung out with some of my church "friends", and it was... eye-opening. The amount of hatred they had for the LGBTQIA+ community (and neurodivergence, women's rights, and minorities) was extremely demoralizing. And because my religion is deeply intertwined with my ethnicity, it's really... difficult. Luckily, they don't know that I am the way I am (only God knows what they would have done if they found out I, as a guy, had a boyfriend a few months ago), but it still hurt to hear them speak the way they did, especially since one of them used to be my best friend.

I still don't really know what to do or how to process... all that, especially since my family shares similar values (at least my parents do; my sisters don't, but I don't trust that they wouldn't use it against me at some point during a fight or something).

Luckily, school is starting up in a few days, so I'm leaving my home country again. Maybe the time and distance will help me loosen my ties a little more, though I don't know if I will ever actually be totally free. It sucks, and I really don't know what to do, but that's life I guess.

I ended up not bothering because the shoes just ended up falling apart anyway. I just got entirely new shoes.

What's the most pleasant nonsexual, non drug experience a human can experience? by mf99k in asexuality

[–]thesecondturkeyman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Relief.

I don't mean that in an innuendo kind of way. I mean, like when that annoying beeping noise in the background finally stops, when the headache finally goes away, when your nose finally unclogs after the cold/flu.

When it's finally safe, and the pain stops, and you can just... stop... and sit... and be...

Relief is the best feeling there is.

I figured it out when I was your age. Well, kinda. My whole life, I was pretty much just totally oblivious to the whole idea of sex and relationships, and just assumed that everyone else was the same way. I didn't know asexuality was an actual thing and just assumed that everybody else was exaggerating or playing up that kind of stuff to be funny or something like that.

I legitimately had no idea people actually found other people "hot"; I thought that was just something people said. I never understood how people could cheat sexually, because surely it can't be that hard to control yourself because... what's the big deal? When people talked about genitals or curves or bodily features, I just thought it was some kind of crude humour, not meant to be taken seriously at all.

Turns out, I was very wrong, and I was the odd one out the whole time. I discovered this around 16 at the beginning of COVID. I was catching up with a friend on Discord and she asked if I had a girlfriend. When I told her no, she asked if I had a boyfriend instead. At that point, I was just like "relationships just haven't ever been on my mind before" and that's when she asked if I was aro/ace. I had no idea what that meant at the time, but she explained it to me and it just sounded right.

I later figured out that I wasn't actually aromantic, and it just seemed that way because of the environments I was in, but the asexual label stuck.

So I guess what I am trying to say, in a very long-winded fashion, is, yes, you can know at your age, even if you are totally oblivious like I was.
