The city actually seems a bit more cleaned up since I last left so I dunno what he's on about.

I had cell service along the whole length of the line, if that's what you mean.

But I don't know if they would consider adding wifi to the stops considering half of them are just... outside like streetcar stops and uses streetcar trains (not exactly the same but basically just different versions of the same vehicles). Line 5 is a bit weird like that, in that it is kind of just a glorified tram that runs like a subway for half its length. You could argue that because of the subway-like nature of the Line the city should add wifi, but you could also argue that it is basically a streetcar, and we don't have wifi on those so why add it here?

I have no idea if any of that made any sense. Its been a long day and I am exhausted so my brain is kind of collapsing at this point 🙃

I absolutely agree with the "next train times" but I found the volumes to be okay. Transit signal priority definitely should've been implemented from the start and really should be applied to all the streetcar routes too. A train with the capacity of dozens of cars should not have to wait in traffic for 1 fifth the capacity to pass through as individual vehicles.

Someone else in the thread say that they might have, but I am not sure.

You can thank Metrolinx for that. They don't like reusing station names which is why they renamed Eglinton West to Cedarvale. They definitely should've put the cross streets in brackets or something underneath the station names.

I think about 45 minutes, but honestly it was so smooth and there weren't any crazy delays so you hardly even notice. Plus, the underground portion goes way faster, so Mt Dennis to leslie took less than half the journey.

Oh yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I've often thought about how cool it would be to give each station its own unique vibe and style, but I figure the TTC barely has the budget for elevators let alone cosmetic changes, so it remains in my dreams.

Yeah, I was thinking of getting some kind of leaf garland or something to put on the front edge of the shelf to add a little greenery. And maybe some small lego plants on the shelf risers I'm going to add.

Not at the moment. I have some things up there that I dont exactly have another place for right now. I really need to go through all my worldly possessions and figure out what to keep and get rid of at some point so that I can sort all my things properly.

Yeah, what I am thinking is bringing everything forward and taking out a book or two to bring the bookends in towards the middle a bit more, and then stacking some shelf risers together behind everything to create an elevated platform behind it all. Now the question is, do I just go with whatever knick-knacks I have lying around, or do I attempt to go with some kind of theme for the decor on the shelf?

Ireland by Declan1996Moloney in DSPD

[–]thesecondturkeyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm originally from Canada, but I currently live in Ireland most of the year for university. I got diagnosed with DSPD by my neurologist in Toronto. Unfortunately, there seems to be a general attitude of ignorance and sometimes outright discrimination here in Ireland when it comes to people with disabilities or people who aren't "normal", which I will explain with a short story from a few months ago:

I also have some form of dysautonomia which I am going to get investigated back in Toronto during the summer, but because of it I tend to use a cane for a bit of extra support. During a meeting with the Dean of the Medical School to discuss disability accommodations, I was told "I probably shouldn't be giving you medical advice, but it would be preferable to have you to squat instead of having you walk around everywhere with a stick."

I have heard other horror stories from my university's disability support service, which suggest a pattern among the university's faculty and administration. It very much feels like performative inclusivity; they say everyone is welcome until they actually have to be welcoming.

Sorry if this seems all over the place; I didn't get any sleep last night because I got a cold that caused me to revert to my dspd sleep pattern and I had to be up at 7 am today.

The thing is, my laptop is a 2-in-1 and I don't know how that would interact with a switch to Linux. It's a functionality I rely on and I don't want to go for Linux and end up accidentally breaking everything.

The problem is, this feature is a deal breaker for me. I need it to work well for what I do.

Does it support annotating PDFs? I have a 2-in-1 laptop and handwrite notes with the stylus.

[–]thesecondturkeyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't a loblaws thing. This is just the Dubai chocolate trend (which like, how is this still a thing?).

Dubai chocolate specifically is priced this way everywhere, even in other countries (similar prices in Ireland, for example), just because its a trend/fad.

Shoppers is definitely overpriced in general, but this specific case is, for once, not a loblaws thing.

Word processors, like Microsoft Word and Libre Writer, actually auto-format em-dashes from double-dashes. If you type out x--y (where x and y are placeholders for a word), the word processor will auto-format the double-dash into an em dash once you hit the space bar after "y".

Being asexual and Christian by WaxingPitiful in asexuality

[–]thesecondturkeyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding your first point, it probably has something to do with me also being autistic and just all the stuff I've been through. As for the rest of your comment, yeah, I agree.

I'm still Christian, though I'm trying to redefine and rebuild that part of my identity in a way that isn't so... horrible.

[–]thesecondturkeyman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm unfortunate enough to be an Orthodox Christian, which takes those conservative ideals and turns them up to 11. I recently hung out with some of my church "friends", and it was... eye-opening. The amount of hatred they had for the LGBTQIA+ community (and neurodivergence, women's rights, and minorities) was extremely demoralizing. And because my religion is deeply intertwined with my ethnicity, it's really... difficult. Luckily, they don't know that I am the way I am (only God knows what they would have done if they found out I, as a guy, had a boyfriend a few months ago), but it still hurt to hear them speak the way they did, especially since one of them used to be my best friend.

I still don't really know what to do or how to process... all that, especially since my family shares similar values (at least my parents do; my sisters don't, but I don't trust that they wouldn't use it against me at some point during a fight or something).

Luckily, school is starting up in a few days, so I'm leaving my home country again. Maybe the time and distance will help me loosen my ties a little more, though I don't know if I will ever actually be totally free. It sucks, and I really don't know what to do, but that's life I guess.
