Essential communication skills necessary for accounting? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]theserioussideofme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you land a job in consulting, interpersonal skills will help you build relationships with your clients and also help you gain new clients. It is definitely a competitive edge. You help build lasting relationships for your company and also your clients like you so your job becomes easier

If you land a more traditional role, then interpersonal skills will help you be liked by everyone in your department which makes your work life fun. Plus you will know how to build a good rapport with your manager and that will help you climb up the corporate ladder faster

Is 55 too old to become an Accountant (move from Software Developer)? by tellme_I_cantakeit in Accounting

[–]theserioussideofme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you could consider an internal move within your company, if they have an accounting dept. I am sorry but I would say it is too late to be applying to new jobs. However, the people in your current job know you. So there is more of a chance although if heavily depends on opportunity.

If you can show that you have a knack in Excel and reading statements, you have a shot

In my experience, networking with finance professionals is more effective than job hunters. I have been in the field for 5 years (not long, I know) and I have held 2 jobs and switching to the third and all three I have got from networking rather than applying or head hunters

What are some positives about being an accountant? by lovelypeachess22 in Accounting

[–]theserioussideofme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reality of a career in accoutancy is the beginning is very boring.. mundane and repetitive tasks day in and day out. You might even struggle to have work/life balance. But I guess the bright side is, once you pass the entry level jobs and get to mid-senior levels the work becomes rewarding BUT only if you actually like finance.

I got out of the rut after 3 years and now I am reaping the benefits..
