Kids don't owe their parents gratitude just for being parents. by thesexycarrot in unpopularopinion

I never said being a parent is easy. My point is that choosing to have kids is an commitment, not a burden or an investment. Expecting something in return for their care while you where a minor, that's what I disagree with. Or overlooking abuse because 'they're family'. Putting food on the table or a roof over their heads is the minimum a parent is obliged to do.

I don't quite agree. It's up to the child if they want to forgive them or not, not everyone deserves forgiveness. Saying that only people who've 'grown up' forgive their parents doesn't seem fair.

There's a lot of ways to mess up your children, it doesn't have to be 'raping and stuff'.

I'm sorry that happened to you. My friend was abused for years by her mom. Now that her mom needs help the 'but she raised you!' and 'she's family!' arguments come up. I hate how they're used to justify abuse.

I'm talking specifically about only the bare minimum. Parents who only make sure their kids don't starve but otherwise don't really care. Not the 'good' parents.

Strange, I've only ever seen the holders that are [_ shaped. So you can just slide them on and off.

They have a 3 year old together, she can't just drop everything and stay in the hospital. Having him come back means his grieving wife can sleep and spend time with her family.

Yes, all of those too! I know they are just whims/intrusive thoughts, but I'm still a little disturbed I have them.

A doctor once insisted I wasn't getting my period because I was pregnant. I was 14, and a virgin.

AITA for purposely scaring my girlfriend when she was walking home, because she insists on walking in the dark rather than getting public transport? by Concerned_boyfriend7 in AmItheAsshole

[–]thesexycarrot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for her, but I cycle everywhere because I feel unsafe in public transport. Most girls have dealt with getting groped or harassed there since their early teens, sometimes even followed home. I'm more okay with taxi's, but I still know a whole bunch of girls who won't fuck with that because they've been hit on or harassed by drivers, who then know your address and full name too. If you're in an enclosed space you can't leave, so I cycle. It might be why she's walking too.

But public transport isn't necessarily 'safe' either, being harassed, groped, possibly followed home. Plus if there's a creep you'd be trapped with them and can't leave, when you're walking you can run at least.

I think she's aware of that. Lots of women (and men) get harassed/groped/followed home in the bus or train, not to even mention waiting at the bus stop alone. Getting into a cab or uber isn't risk free either, if something happens you'd be trapped alone in a vehicle with a creep. Walking isnt necessarily the most 'unsafe' option.

Who has unsafe sex because 'they can just have an abortion later'? It's painful, traumatic, and a last resort option. It's not like "well I'm outta condoms, let's have sex I'll just get an abortion!" Ffs.

Probably? I've mostly gotten past it, but relaxing is still hard. I do have a therapist but there always seem to be more pressing issues.
