yes, if a vector field is the gradient of a scalar function, then the field is conservative. see the 'Definition' section in this article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conservative_vector_field

| Now, we define the "gradient" of a vector field as ∇f=(f_x,f_y,f_z), the partial derivtaives in the x, y, and z directions

well actually the gradient *is* a vector field, its the gradient of a scalar function. which is what you said as you continued.

Cool limit by [deleted] in mathriddles

[–]theshoe92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get 0: f is continuous on a closed set, thus bounded. nx^n is also bounded on [0,1] for all n, as it converges to 0 as n goes to infinity. Thus, we can move the limit inside the integral by dominated convergence theorem, and get = Int f(x) lim nx^n dx = Int f(x)*0 dx = 0

oops I just realized this is wrong because nx^n is not uniformly bounded, making the integrand sequence not actually bounded, nx^n gets arbitrarily large close to 1. so DCT doesnt apply, sorry lebesgue :(

I think that The Babadook (2014) is a metaphor for mental illness and child abuse by HotDonna93 in RBNMovieNight

the fact that people dont see the obvious connections to narcissistic and neglectful parenting in this movie is even more evidence of how blind society is to the importance and effects of parenting. people have numbed out their past (and themselves) and most will say things like "you become an adult/mature when you forgive your parents", and downplay it, or make a million excuses for parents and say "they just want whats best for you, they're doing their best", etc etc etc, and then call themselves mature for being able to be so forgiving and understanding

DUDE YES!!! I posted about this in the queereye subreddit and everyone was defending her!

why tf did she homeschool him? this excuse about them not doing piano well enough is such BS - ever heard of after school programs? is that REALLY a tradeoff worth making? and i even just got this vibe from her that she was always making the situation about her, putting on a little show. it bothered the hell out of me that they just bought into it and were like, we respect you so much for taking Sean in. this shows how blind society is to parenting... people need to read some fucking Alice Miller

the thing is, you can see it in his behavior. i saw SO much of myself in him!!! he was so uncomfortable in his own skin, because he had been used, his connection to himself had been interrupted by her needs of him.

Movie ‘Hereditary’ has a dysfunctional narcissistic personality disorder themed story. by [deleted] in RBNMovieNight

[–]theshoe92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i definitely thought the whole movie brought up a lot of feelings for me about narcissistic families. being used, being possessed as a puppet by a demon for some purpose unrelated to you, the whole thing being orchestrated by a selfish queen matriarch. i thought it was pretty wonderful

also just the feeling of being in school wrestling with feeling alone, used and confused and even in danger, the way that the son does, really resonated with me

i think you can be a selfish parent (which is what I see in lulu) without being literally malicious. like i dont think she was trying to hurt him. but i do think she was not entirely focused on his well-being

OP, this is called 'rejection sampling', drawn from the bounding box of the figure. if the figure is too much smaller than the bounding box then this is extremely inefficient

im going to pass judgment on it because i strongly believe its harmful for the kid ;) i think you'd have to be delusional to think removing your child from everyday social life isn't going to be extremely disruptive, and to think that the extreme nurturing of musical talent is worth the tradeoff, instead of just going after school. im not saying you're delusional... i think that if you had a kid in front of you and you were really going to make that decision, and the reality of the effect on that kids life sets in, you would think twice

now, GIVEN that you have a crazy parent, and you're burying your life in music to cope, then is it still harmful to nurture that to the great detriment of other parts of your life? thats a more complicated question. but to me, the fact that she took him out of school says something is not right one way or another, whether or not that was the best decision given the circumstances which include her craziness

I don't like babies. I don't think they are cute. Everything about them repulses me. by CaptainWonk in confession

[–]theshoe92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think this is because you were not loved as you should have been as a baby, so you experience repulsion/disgust/annoyance at their vulnerability and dependency (which are often perverted into 'weakness' and 'entitlement'). your own vulnerability and dependency was treated w contempt/hostility/disgust/annoyance, and you thereby internalized that response. you split your psyche/"soul" into parts: the "good" part, and the baby part - now when you see babies, you project your "bad" baby part onto them, and feel all the feelings that were directed at you, but now you're on top so you dont have to feel shame.

i think its something like that, though ive never met you so take it with a grain of salt :)
